Wholeheartedly agree that you should read a lot (and write a lot) in order to improve your skills. I'm 29, and my reading has significantly dwindled compared to when I was a teenager, but if I had to guess . . . 300–350? I'd definitely like to crank that number up.

I'll tend to use name generators and then play around with inserting or removing letters, moving them around. Have them read aloud to see if they hit the ear right.

Personally, I find there's no such thing as an original idea anymore. Every idea has been done. What makes it original is how you tell it.

Advice received! And for me, writing every day would burn me out. That's not to say I don't do other writing-related things.

Don't be afraid to write that weird story. You also don't need to write every day.
