I'll jump back in here...
I am on a Neil Gaiman kick. I finished Fragile Things last week. It's a little uneven, but there are quite a few treasures in the bunch of short stories there. None of the poems really resonated with me.
I am now reading Stardust, and I have only knocked down two...
Well yeah, I get that. I really liked him in the book, and I was pretty upset at the end of this scene. In the show, it's almost like you feel it worse, since he has such a short time before the battle. And once in the battle, he's just so fun to watch!
With each day that passes, and with each episode that airs, the fear that the show will start spoiling the books grows larger. Makes me sad! In my dreams, GRRM has already finished both Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, and we'll get them both in early '15.
@Gryphos
It's similar to Ned's demise. It's shocking, it makes you angry and your semse of justice is screaming, but it serves to propel the story. If he did win, like we all wanted, what happens next? I think the storytelling options are more interesting the way it panned out.
And... Well...
I liked Mistborn, and by the end, I liked it a lot, but that's in spite of the fact that his two protagonists weren't really well-written. Reading his female main character leads you to believe that he's never actually spoken to a woman before, and his male main character can be insufferably...
I saw an old Godzilla movie or two when I was a little kid. Long enough ago that I don't remember it at all. I thougt that the movie in '98 looked dumb and never saw it. So, I went in expecting only one thing - a fun monster disaster movie. Well, I was mostly satisfied. It was about as...
This discussion reminds me of one of the things I loved about some of my favorite 80s movies - they all started the story in the middle of the action. No origin stories, because they just aren't needed.
We don't follow Indiana Jones through boyhood and college, we see him right away chasing...
In a way, Mistborn has the most destruction of anything I can think of.
The First Law trilogy features wanton destruction of both people and buildings.
What about Incredible Hulk comics? Few things are more fun than Hulk Smash!
Man of Steel had almost as much city destruction as Godzilla.
So it appears that I have returned to the spoiler thread. So much for resolve, lol.
How great was Peter Dinklage's performance in the trial scene? He's a great actor, but last night he really shone.
No, unless you're hoping that the ensuing controversy will be the one thing that will gain you readers. Outside of historical context, doing something like that will upset some people, and then some others won't care. It certainly won't gain you anything.
True enough.
Episode III was pretty good, IMO. Far and away the best of the prequels, and I usually rank it third in my list of favorites among the Star Wars movies.
