Should I write my novel in Obsidian?

Amazing, thanks for this run down. Obsidian looks good on all those points, which is encouraging. All my work is saved automatically to Google Drive, and I have a periodic automatic back up to Dropbox. In terms of file size, the format is Markdown which is the most efficient format...

Should I write my novel in Obsidian?

Thanks for the words of wisdom. In this case I think I’m safe - you host it all yourself (none of your info goes to Obsidian) and only have to pay for a sync service if you want. There is no built in AI. The main caveat seems to be when using community plugins, including AI ones. Nothing...

Should I write my novel in Obsidian?

I guess I’m not looking for reasons to use Obsidian as much as I’m looking for reasons not to use it. Unlike most of the things above, it’s free. So maybe a more useful comparison would be to Google Docs or Pages?

Should I write my novel in Obsidian?

I've been using LivingWriter for my book but I also started using Obsidian for notes. The more I learn about Obsidian, the more I wonder if I should just use it instead.

Artist to collaborate on a potential graphic novel

I’m working on converting a well-received short story into a graphic novel and I need an artist to collaborate with. It's a fantasy-inspired sci-fi story about a teenage girl who is abducted by bird-like aliens and carried off to their craft of thorns. I think the current short story could be...

Substack: good for marketing and/or publishing?

Not yet, planning to give it a go soon. Reckon I’ll use but that as Medium to begin with, possibly switching to Substack paid later. So far it seems easier to reach an audience on Medium but no replacement for engaging elsewhere.

Surprised how quite this thread has been, would have thought this was a hot topic for writers…

Substack: good for marketing and/or publishing?

I’ve been trying to think of ways to find an audience for my first book, as I write it. Does anyone have pros, cons or advice for considering Substack? My book is urban low fantasy, with some science fantasy (one such plot line so far). Likely to be about 100k pages in 40-50 chapters. I’m...

Advice for approaching scientists for help with research

I am referencing some pretty cutting edge microbiology and neuroscience in my book but I’m not a scientist myself. Does anyone have any tips for approaching the researchers who authored the papers I’m using? I want to do this respectfully, with reasonable expectations of them.
