    Gladiators - a few questions

Let me google that for you It doesn't say exactly that Claudius fought in formal gladiatorial matches, but did participate in games. I'm pretty certain, as history doesn't tell the whole tale, that he did more than just kill a trapped whale.

    Gladiators - a few questions

I'd assume it worked like this. Man Captured > Turned to Slave > Sold to Training Camp > Trained and turned into Gladiator (in the lowest sense of the term > Purchased by Master > Instructed further by Master & Instructors. Weapons were often determined by the tournament itself, with rules as...

    Gladiators - a few questions

This is indeed true and when a fight was to the death or when the host decided that the looser should die, the host of the event was responsible to compensate the gladiator's master and replace his fighter. It was pretty much like gladiatorial insurance.

    Gladiators - a few questions

I haven't studied up on Gladiators for quite some time, but I answered, to the best of my knowledge, a few of your questions. There are a few good documentaries on the subject that could be found in their entirety on youtube. 1. Has a gladiator ever been enrolled into the military as part of...

    Gun vs Dragon

I'm almost certain that there is a much larger chance of indirect damage and irritation from musket fire. Musket balls are notorious for not going through their target, instead lodging in it, along with it, they pull fabric and anything else in the path into the target with them. This is one...

Ask me about Science! (Theoretical, Factual, or otherwise)

Dropping is gravity based, only the density of the planet is taken into factor there, the lesser dense arrow 5lbs or 50lbs will fall towards the earth at the planets gravitational pull. That said, force is used to propel an arrow, in which is turned to momentum overtime. If the bow releases...

Ask me about Science! (Theoretical, Factual, or otherwise)

It isn't free, but there is a trial period for it. You could also download it by other means, I'm sure. Universe Sandbox It may take a little work from your end to figure out how to get it to do what you want, but it simulates a lot of the spacial & gravitational forces found in outerspace. If...

Ask me about Science! (Theoretical, Factual, or otherwise)

I see a few others have helped answer this, but I have a slightly different understanding of your question. Like a few others have mentioned, there are quite a few different laws and forces affecting this arrow, but you are asking if, using magic, you could alter how the arrow is affected & how...

Ask me about Science! (Theoretical, Factual, or otherwise)

Technically there is no direction in space; no up or down. So it wouldn't really be horizontal or vertical and as space doesn't have the same friction laws as we do, it could rest easy at any plane. We have not found an ACTUAL example of this to my knowledge, so it's mostly, if not completely...

Ask me about Science! (Theoretical, Factual, or otherwise)

Well... technically the science community has been on the fence about our Moon actually being a planet as well (at least in mass); we could be a pretty good example of a Binary system, but there are multiple definitions of a binary planet system. See: Double planet - Wikipedia, the free...

    Incorporating Magic in Science-Fiction

Somehow this answered everything... Thanks everyone, I think instead of going with one approach, I'm just going to sprinkle in a little bit of everything you've all said to give some variation. To really make sure it doesn't look like magic. I wasn't really expecting to resolve this issue, but...

    Incorporating Magic in Science-Fiction

I'm going off of the different classifications of functional magic and trying to make most, if not all possible within my universe. Main/Functional Magic - Television Tropes & Idioms I quite like the Lovecraft idea.. maybe some sudden global consciousness where telekinesis and the like are...

    Incorporating Magic in Science-Fiction

After a few months of world building, concepting, and designing a Hard Sci-Fi universe, I've ran into a few technical problems while attempting to turn it into a Pen & Paper RPG. I didn't think about it at the time, but I'm quickly realizing, that many tropes and mechanics in the average...

Ask me about Science! (Theoretical, Factual, or otherwise)

Recessive and dominant genes are the focus of this question. The creation of a demigod is due to the fact that ALL of a gods genes do not carry over and are therefor some are recessive when combined with a human's dominant genes. (which is a conundrum as should a 'god' have all dominant genes?)...

    I've been putting this off

Oh don't get me wrong, I can swing fantasy. I'm mostly here to contribute and help others, I find that's the best way to learn. It'll be a long time before I bog down any forum with my own crap xD as it is.. just crap. Thanks though for the awesome welcoming speech! Hopefully I can contribute...
