    Game of Thrones - finally

So I'm almost finished with Season 3. Some thoughts... -- to everyone who liked the Star Wars Prequels...this is what genuine political complexity looks like. -- The Lord of Light is pretty cool. Reminiscent of Christianity entering British Isles. I like how true it is to the essence of...

Future books and book bound reissues for those who don't care for ereaders and for diehard fans who want a physical copy.

So you're saying your goal then is to get an advance and then...not deliver? Traditional publishers are utterly flooded with manuscripts. Agents barely have the energy or attention to give an author ten pages of read. The selfie path has been made much easier by the internet. As I said...

    Game of Thrones - finally

So I just started watching the tv series as well. I scoffed at the fandom of it, but I am enjoying it. I especially like the realistic political situation and backstory that was crafted here. The show does make me think that inherently, fantasy will always enjoy a larger audience than sci fi.

So I've been sick lately, and the weird thing about being sick is that it reminds me of childhood. Like, I find myself remembering childhood more vividly now that I'm sick. I even find myself enjoying cartoons more while being sick than I would otherwise, and am more receptive to fantastical...

    Rewriting the Star Wars Prequels

Well, it would be in line with a more realistic political system which I outlined...also would make the contrast of a nobleman's son being raised by "those people" more poignant.

My theory on fiction: description grabs attention, but plot sustains it

This is a theory that I keep in mind while writing, But in most books that I read, I notice that I tend to pay most attention to description and inventive uses of language early on. This is basically when I'm wondering if it's worth bothering with continuing the book. Later on, once I'm...

    Secrecy is self-destructive

Not even that though. Like, Weir posted epub files on his website, but people with the Kindle didn't know how to load them on. So he put it on the amazon store.

    Secrecy is self-destructive

I recently listened to an interview with Andy Weir, who wrote The Martian, and lo and behold, he reveals that he never set out for money. Instead, he posted his ebook for free on his website, where it gained a following...and suggestions from real scientists as to how to improve his work with...

Well, I will say that fantasy does have...severe race problems built into it, inherently. Given that so much of it revolves around dehumanized humanoids (orcs) and murdering every last one of them...

    Is Writing a Meritocracy?

The only fantasy book I'm close to familiar with is JK Rowling's Harry Potter series. So here's what I think in regards to her success... 1. There are hidden biases. Rowling herself was rejected by several publishers many times. Her name is abbreviated so it doesn't seem too feminine, but...

Harry Potter Movie Marathon - The full experience

I like the Potter magic system quite a bit, even though under scrutiny it doesn't quite hold up. But in literary impact, it basically is a way of expression strong emotion, which is what you want in story. By falling apart under scrutiny, I mean that in theory, you could just walk around...

Random thought: I looked at my copy of Harold Bloom's "The Closing of the American Mind" on my bookshelf, and I thought that that specific line of academic pessimism is racist, at heart. It relies heavily on arbitrary authority, that of the professor and his thoughts on the lines of poetry, and...
