An analog hobbyist waking up in a digital world

Hi Adam. Thanks for the welcome.

These days, Shakespeare and Austen seem to be in the category of "acquired tastes." I acquired my love of Shakespeare as a girl, but didn't start reading Austen at all until a couple of years ago. They have in common a keen eye for characterization, and for pointing out personal and cultural follies with wicked-edged humor.

Are either being discussed on this forum? And if not, what's your favorite Shakespeare comedy? History? Tragedy? Sonnet?
If pushed: Twelfth Night; Henry IV; Hamlet or Macbeth; I'll pass on a sonnet but I'd probably say The Tempest for the late plays!

Hi Hi, I'm the forum's 'goofy guy who scribbles inconceivable nonsense on walls but is otherwise harmless' lol
I know that's oddly specific, but, it's kinda true.

My stories are a bit on the odder side (Compared to the rest of those here) and are comedy / character driven, probably far more than they should be given the actual plot they have. But I like to 'let it ride' when my characters be themselves. (Somehow they wind up in character anyway)

Welcome in.

I like those choices! My favorite comedy is Twelfth Night too. I think Henry V is still my fave of the histories, and Othello creeps me out so hard it's got to be my favorite of the tragedies. The Tempest was so ambitious for 17th century plays that I can't help admiring it---but I still prefer the Dream, given a choice.

Thank you.

The reason I asked is that one of the things I do at Mythic Scribes is to buy and review a book or two by our published authors. It might be a while before I get to yours.

That's just as well. The legal issues are moving slowly, so it's just as well I've got other work to focus on. 😉 Thanks for the reply!

In the 80s I did get to see one day of a West Indies vs England Test match at the Oval. It was amazing. The crowd on both sides was loud, engaged and friendly [and ever so slightly drunk by the end].
I just don’t have the time to watch Test Matches now [and they are usually behind a paywall]. So, I watch the T20s and 100s when I can, and highlights of the England Tests.
The good thing about highlights is that you know how the day went so can plan accordingly.
In many sports I find the Women’s game more engaging than the Men’s. Less ego, and more sport.

I'm so envious that you've been to a live ODI match. Hubs and I have talked about making the trip down to SF/Oakland to watch the Unicorns during the MLC tournament in 2027, but now fuel prices are going to have to drop significantly before we can consider it seriously. Darn it.

And 💯on the women's game! I catch the Indian women every chance I get, and wish I could see more of the US women's matches. Overall I really appreciate that good sportsmanship is still hanging on in cricket, even if it's only by a thread. It's rare to see in sports, these days.
