Hey!

Hello all! My name is Law. I'm currently working on a revision to improve my novel so I can find an agent and a publisher for it. I have a masters degree in creative writing and have been writing since middle school. I love fantasy specifically any mythic family. I'm hoping to find/join a writing group that I can share my world building and character building sheets with and also bounce my ideas off of as well. I really want to write the best series I can write! Looking forward to talking to you all 😊

Howdy Law, Welcome here.

What would I learn if I went on to have a masters degree in creative writing?

Hi there! And thank you :)
Really it depends on the program. I'm also getting a second masters degree in popular fiction and publishing which is the one I would suggest to anyone with in interest in genre fiction. This program is great because it includes classes on the basics of publishing and editing. But I've also taken specific topic classes like on genres, revising your work, And more! Most of the standard creative writing degrees are more selective on what genres you write but they both offer a focus on craft and prose.

While I would certainly prefer to have a degree than not, I am wondering how the creative writing degree has helped you specifically with your writing. What has been the biggest benefit of it?

The biggest benefit for me was having the feedback/time/community to really dedicate to writing. But also to learn more consciously about a lot of writing conventions.
