Hey! Happy to be here--I miss forums!

I've been writing since I knew what stories were and could hold a crayon. Right now I'm working on a near-future sci-fi novel with a writing partner, and a solo project that blends cyberpunk and space opera.

I'm interested in talking with folks about worldbuilding and plot/pacing. I'm also a librarian and always happy to share insights about library and information science, writing librarian characters, and how to design knowledge systems for fictional worlds.

Right now I'm reading The Difference Engine by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling and never has a book been more up my alley: Industrial revolution, information science, luddites, socialist labor unions, and espionage? (I love spy stories) I can't believe its taken me this long to find it.

Also I love rabbits. :)

Hello and welcome, Iagomore! So happy to have you here

Coincidentally I, too, am working on a cyberpunk story, so I would absolutely love to hear about yours!

Welcome! Forums are such a vibe glad you’re here! Your projects sound *so* cool, especially that cyberpunk/space opera blend (two great tastes that taste great together, right?). Worldbuilding and pacing are such meaty topics I feel like pacing is the unsung hero of storytelling. Too fast, and readers get whiplash; too slow, and they wander off. It’s a tightrope walk, but when you nail it, it’s magic.

And as a librarian, you’ve got this whole treasure trove of knowledge about info systems and how they shape societies, that’s such a unique lens for worldbuilding! Like, how does access to information (or lack of it) drive conflict in your worlds? Do your characters have to hack ancient databases, or are they fighting against misinformation in a hyper-connected society? So many possibilities!

Also, *The Difference Engine* sounds like it was basically written for you. Industrial revolution meets espionage meets info science? That’s your jam in book form. Have you found any scenes or ideas in it that sparked inspiration for your own work? Always love hearing how books influence writers’ brains. Anyway, so happy to have you here, can’t wait to hear more about your projects and geek out over worldbuilding.
