How do you share your world with the real world?

Hi All. I'm new here. So still learning. I have been working on a world for a few years now, but only for myself so far. I haven't really shared it with anyone outside of trying to make a fictional story based in the world. I am curious, though. How do all of you share your worlds with others? Do you write fiction or play rpgs in your world with friends? Or is it just a hobby for you to keep to yourself?

Like a dwarf in a catapult, I have a few places that my world building gets targeted and then launched at.

Mostly here though. Sure, it's art of my writing in general, but this forum in general is where I go to talk of it, see how some of it may or may not work and properly gush over creating the food in it. That and the chat here. Otherwise I have at least one discord hang out with old friends from other forums and places that we show each other our worlds with too.

I had a game world I shared with friends through gaming. Some of my earliest short stories were placed in it, but...I dumped it when I too writing seriously, as I wanted nothing in it, that was someone else property. My current writing world is entirely my own, and I share it through publishing the story. And sometimes in short stories here are elsewhere. I suppose I share it with some just by talking about it in person, but its not like people ask me about it alot.

its not like people ask me about it a lot.

I find that too - no one ever asks me "So, what's happening in your fantasy world this week?". I'm a bit Gollum like with my fantasy world - I sit and stroke / polish it while muttering "My precioussss". If someone else comes near I shriek "thieves!" at the top of my lungs, or occasionally drink whisky (never whiskey) - hence the new avatar.

I have a friend who is interested enough in my worlds and story ideas that I can give her "worldbuilding profiles" to read and she'll actually read them and give her thoughts. I really like putting my worldbuilding and lore into one cohesive document with sections and headings so I can share it easily. I don't share my worlds other than that really, and I don't have that many people around me who are interested. Most of my family members couldn't care less.

I did put together a website with a blog where I share world information for one of my novels in particular, though I feel like I should have geared it more towards sharing about all my different worlds and novels instead of just the one, because I have way too many ideas. And I share a bit on Deviant Art as well when I draw my characters. But generally, no one reads my writing and I have only a select few people I send my artworks to directly.

I've reached the point where I actually prefer my friends and family not to be interested, cause secretly, I know they aren't, but they pretend they are, and often it greatly wastes my time. Its best not include them.

Anyone ever try to think of a way to make money with your world? I've considered writing a book or developing a game or maybe even an interactive website of some kind. It would just really be cool to be able to make a living doing what you enjoy. Don't know if it's possible though.

Mine is just something to keep my brain busy and write silly stories. Depends what you want to use it for. You could totally set stories in it or make a game around it.

I shared a lot of the lore of my world with a friend who is both an avid reader of fantasy, and a film editor who just happened to work on the LOTR trilogy. It was over a worryingly large amount of very fine scotch (16yo Lagavulin if you're interested). Happily he loved it - the scotch and my world lore - and wants to be a beta reader. :D
