Unless his sexuality is important to the story for whatever big reason i see no reason to change anything. It isnit as if gay people have a radically different point of view. The only subjects a gay person might think different about is sexuality but even then it is just about which gender they fancy. Unless of course you are writing this story in a society that is against homosexuality for whatever reason in which case i would either tone down the homophobia in this society or as you've said...rewrite. But unless that specifically is the case i think you should just see this as an interesting little thing about your character and move on.
