Marcus and Henquist

Portfolio details

A portfolio collection of the diaries of the 'Almighty Lord' (self-styled) Marcus Acristle and letters from Henquist of Lightford, 306-310 (AH-WE). The records detail a picture of life in the Cromine Adulatory established by Acristle after the H-W, and precedes the Uprising but some 80 years (referenced as Bright Day in the letters).

Acristle is well known to historians and the casual reader, but Henquist is a more obscure figure, though instrumental to the plans for the Uprising that came in later decades. What we know of Henquist is limited to the letters, given that record-keeping was limited in those days and Lightford was obliterated in the Just Wars. We can be certain however that he was an Adjunct of Acristle in the 300s and died some time around 316-17. His relationship with Morgonia is debated by historians, but it is agreed that Morgonia was the recipient and there is clear affection, if not love expressed in the letters. Was Henquist her first husband, her fabled 'love of old'? We may never know, but the records may help you to decide for yourself.

We are thankful to the New Britania Observatory for loaning us the records and allowing us to digitise them for your use.
