resaexching guilds and classes and dark magic

ok, need help pointing in the right direction of my research, re-researching guilds of all types, I realise this can be complicated because sometimes, despite. researching a book idea that was inspired by black company
For guilds, I realise that the same types can be stronger than others depending on numbers, influence, and power
races: trying get comprehensive trying to figure how i want to potray each in thiks dark fantasy.
Dark magic archetypes: trying to determine with subclasses how to rank them (have a dark magic user character in mind, but trying to figure them out. It's all related in a way, maybe my mind fragmented with my adhd this week, writing basic scenes as pasting to start and as I go along, plansting it has been a while since I've been on here.

I would suggest looking into RPG tools for this. I dont know much about the current versions, but the DnD Player's handbook, and Dungeons Masters Guide had stuff for Guild in them. I am quite sure, I went to my local gaming shop, I might find book dedicated to guilds. Thieves, assassins, and magic using guids in particular, I would expect.

Here, I found this: Guilds DnD

I'm getting a "medieval fantasy" vibe, so it's homework time.

Medieval Life

This entire series is accessible and accurate. It's my go-to for general research, and I was a Medieval Lang and Lit geek in college.

Races: I would give a really good think to this as I flipped through RPG guides, looking for source material. Young writers will often take these examples and write fanfic, which is a great metal exercise. I've done this. My favorite authors have done it, too. For example, this is a classic human, elf, dwarf combo. Little nip, little flare, and they suddenly shine, but only if you're paying attention.

Valor

Archetypes can be easily looked up on TV Tropes, but for a little more delving I always go to If I Were an Evil Overlord for laughs and inspiration. It's sprayed all across the internet, but I have a Word document that I keep clean. I'm more than happy to share it with whoever.

As they define themselves:

JSTOR is a digital library of academic journals, books, and primary sources.

I miss it so. I once spent three days digging up pdf articles. Not in my research area, that would shock everyone. lol No, it was Heian Japan and research on one of our series antagonists.

The question is never, is the work hard? The question is always, do you have a passion for it or not?

that sound like a lot of hard work
Not really. Searching JSTOR is straightforward, the challenge comes in deciding what documents you should use in your work and this can take a bit of time given that you have to at least read the summaries and sometimes the complete documents.

One of the best perks of being faculty alumnus is access to the university library, which means access to JSTOR. I have to go through the trouble of logging in again, but when I need it, I needs it!

And Mad Swede, you would not get strange looks from me. My dissertation was on some guilds in Augsburg. I know enough on the topic to have to bite my tongue whenever fantasy guilds appear. Gygax and progeny created a permanent fork in that dev. Heck, I even stay away from it in my own fiction (but I guarantee there are no assassins guilds or suchlike in Altearth).
