Okay, after ditching my old blog as it was A. Not getting anywhere and B. felt too constricting I've taken a break and come back with a vengeance. All the writing reference books say that, for a blog, stick to your niche (in this case writing) and give your opinion. I feel claustrophobic just...
I kinda have two cringe-worthy moments. One is the first story I ever finished, in grade school. It was a novel and....oh my god! Just thinking about it makes me cringe and laugh at the same time! In a nutshell, the protagonist is an american reincarnation of a powerful samurai who-aided by...
Oh, I've had the beginning, middle, and end for the story since day one. But they kept changing! Everything kept growing, shrinking, losing weight, gaining weight, changing colors, EVERYTHING! The only thing that every stayed the same is the genre.
Right now the story I have has not changed...
In anticipation of the coming movie adaptation I read, just today, "Murder On The Orient Express". I know adaptations often times scrap or exaggerate some things. Like Jaws and Jurassic Park. (If you haven't read the books, DO!) If the movie is half as good as the book, it will be great.
Yet...
Okay, let's talk Frighteningly Real dreams. I'm talking Nightmare On Elm Street Real, minus the homicidal psycho.
There are points of the dream I don't remember. The entire thing was like a modern, beach-set remake of Big Jake. And I was Little Jake. In the dream I raced inside a cave by a...
So I recently came across some articles from the early seasons of Supernatural. After struggling with my stories, I figured I'd research and read how successful authors in the genre and audience did it. I read a part which really clicked for me.
I don't remember it word for word but, after...
As long as the Miracle doesn't also serve as a Deus Ex Machina for the story then yes, it's fine. My only...flinch, perse, is if the characters are just running and all of sudden, Boom!, Miracle. Unless there's somekind of precursor then it seems to cross the line from Wonderful Miracle to...

To me, a subplot's life and death doesn't depend so much as the subplot itself but its connection and purpose to the main story and its memorability of either characters and/or plot.
Some subplots actually don't need to be presented as entire little....yarns that have a definitve, bold color...
My dog spotted a cat on the fence. Tried to get it but it was a two-foot pup against a five-foot fence. She gave it a good shot but bounced right off. She looked at the cat, tried again, finally just came inside. I swear to god the cat stuck it's tongue out as my little puppy plodded up the...
Beautiful cover, great colors. My only critique is to make the color of your name on the front cover, just the front cover, darker. As it's golden orange it blends with the cover art behind it. They eye kinda glances over your name.
This thread is for everyone who has wanted to tear up their manuscript, chuck it in the fire, take a hammer to their computer, or chuck their laptop out the window all to kill the story that's sucking the life out of you. The techno-dementor.
I've had several story ideas. Some are just...
I outline in stages. Usually three but, if it's really being a jerk, four. First I blurb the #%@ out of the story. From beginning to end I blurb the story, what happens to who, why etc.
Then I take that blurb, highlight part that I like, things that are integral (foreshadowing, character...
