Essentially your creation, so you can do what you want with them. That's the beauty of the genre - you get to decide without anyone nit-picking "factual" details.
I get them from time to time. For me it's the soaring/superman style flying but the quality can vary from dream to dream. I've discovered that bad guys, in fact very few other inhabitants of my dreamscape, can fly. So it's a great way to escape.
