    A problematic heroine

The line from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" comes to mind: "The husband may be the head of the household, but the wife is the neck, and she can turn the head any way she wants." I paraphrase, of course. \give me a word, aaaany word...

    World Building

This is how I write, I usually come up with a setting or world for the story before the story is even fully formed. Kind of like: Idea - World - Characters - Plot - Setting within the world My high fantasy project world took 16 years and 8 rough drafts before I was happy with it. And even so...

Putting the Urban in Urban Fantasy

Ther reason I do not want to create a fictionalized town or world is becuase I've already a project where I created a whole world. The writing process on that story took 17 years but I finally had a full world and finished manuscript which is going through one final rewrite before editing...

Putting the Urban in Urban Fantasy

This is the 5th incarnation of the rough draft and I've changed the setting three times, so I need some advice lol.

Putting the Urban in Urban Fantasy

In my current project which for my own paranoid resons I shall call "Glumbo", point aside, in project Glumbo I seem to be torn on the setting in which the story will take place. One of the rare times that a story idea came to me before the setting idea did, so I dropped the plot right here in...

    Fantasy publishers/newbies

I was never trying to imply that there was no effort on teh authors part requiered after the fact, merely suggesting that most people I know with a creative personality are not very personable themselves. But that is my own experience, and obviously it differs drastically from person to person...

    NaNoWriMo 2011 Schedule

2000 words a day or an hour, whichever comes first. (still working on rough timeline for the novel)

    Fantasy publishers/newbies

One of the most glaring downsides to Self Publishing is that unless you hire someone to with your own money, you are the one marketing your book. Most writers I've met are not sales persons.

    Real, Imaginary, and Perception

Pretty much what darkstorm said. The characters and people and races are real in the world in which they exist, they have grown up knowing everything that is fantastic in their world as normal and if you treat them that way, then it will be belivible to the reader. Hope that helps :)

    Fantasy publishers/newbies

This is what I will be doing when I finish my first.

    Location hunting.

Well, technically it would be a sub-urban fantasy ;) Most the Urban fatasy stories I've read take place in the big city so seeing something that is set in a more sprawled kind of area, but still close to the city would be a nice change of pace as a reader. I'm also not fammiliar with...

    Good and evil

In my main project good and evil are in shades of grey... For instance, my evil empire that wants to conquer the world at any cost, also has sweeping imperial programs for its citizens whose lives are made better because they are part of the empire. (Think Airships) My good kingdoms who...

    Mapping The world

Speaking as someone who recently graduated college with a degree in Drafting and Design -- and this won't apply to everyone -- I feel compelled to add something to this thread. When creating your world you only need to map out as far as the characters will travel or mention in passing to give...

    Writing Software?

While useful, a cloud dropbox is not.

Is it possible to write without violence?

Never heard of this woman, however my main project and the others that are in line behind it have violence in them. For Pete's sake my main project is about the events that lead to open war, and the overthrowing of an evil empire masquerading as good. Guess what's in war? VIOLENCE! That aside...
