    Romance And Gender.

Women tend to like romances that have conflict: supernatural relationships, the bad boy, the rival gang, etc. This fascination derives from the want to feel special. I am uncertain how it is in other countries, but in the States, women are now raised to believe that feeling special from a guy...

    Multiple Stories, Same World

It is not uncommon or unique to write multiple stories set in the same world. I built this particular world and I like it and all of its races. I have many main characters and their stories fleshed out. Here's the issue: where do I start? Each story is planned as a unique stand-alone. You don't...

Do you still play Video Games?

I have played video games since I was eight. It began with games like Pokemon, Sonic, Mario, and Kirby. I mostly play RPGs now like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Mass Effect. I play other games like Left 4 Dead and Harvest Moon. So yes. I still play video games. And I really don't see that...

    Nicknames You Hated

I am actually not that bothered by it. I am not fond of it, but I know that it is in all good jest. Do not worry.

    Nicknames You Hated

Nicknames serve two purposes: a mockery or a term of endearment. Even if the purpose is the later, you can still hate the nickname. I bring this up because I have received a new nickname at my job. One of my coworkers had started to call me "Sparkles." He says that it fits my personality...

What would you consider to be a "normal" fantasy name?

I look up different words in different languages and string them together. For example, I have a race called the Bosvolk. I took the word bos (tree) and combined it with volk (people. Both are Swahili, I believe.) Another example is a city called Osirmon, taking from the Egyptian figures Osiris...

What are your storytelling pet peeves?

Particular stereotypes of female characters drive me up the wall. The spunky tomboy that says that she can take care of herself, but turns out to be completely worthless. Or the female character whose sole purpose is to fall in love with the hero. I prefer strong female characters, i.e. Ripley...

    About the Brain...

With creating new species, I'd like to consider exploring every vantage point. However, I am a bit ignorant when it comes to the brain. School spent more time showing me where the brain was rather than showing me what exactly goes on up there. I apologize in advance if I sound ignorant. One...

    Defending Romance in RPGs

A buddy of mine made a very odd argument. He was complaining about how more RPGs are incorporating love/marriage/family into their works. He referred it as "chick stuff." He went on to say that most gamers are "straight guys" so gaming companies should cater to that. I can sympathize with him...

Need reasonable physical indicator of drug use

If it is a real life drug, then nothing of that sort. If it is a fantasy drug, ball is in your court. Pupil dilation is a common symptom for our stimulants. For fantasy, it can easily be a cocktail of stimulants and depressants that can cause new symptoms.

Need reasonable physical indicator of drug use

Stimulants are an increase in alertness, hyperactivity, heart rate and breathing. Also enlarges pupil size. A physical indicator to consider would be during the withdrawal stage (during the "low" period.) This can include, but not limited to, redness in eyes, increased irritability, and...

Thought on Deity Systems and Religion

While I do like the idea, I think just having four religions is too narrow, especially since three are based one theology. It is very possible for the worshippers of the Almighty One and/or Overlords are simply divided into different sects. If you put 100 people in a room and show them a...

    Story > Writing Skills?

Ah. I apologize if I came across in that manner. Allow me to rephrase, a lot of recent works do not reflect the same writing skills as past works that we consider to be masterpieces. I try to read everything, new and old. I have read both Twilight and Fifty Shades of Gray. Perhaps I am merely...

New Writer: how do I develop basic writing skills?

My advice? Start on smaller pieces. Write out scenes. They do not have to be long. Before you worry about what to write, you must first learn how to write. Find your writing style. Find your strengths and weaknesses. If you have a hard time with showing, not telling, then write a paragraph...

    Story > Writing Skills?

To be fair, art critique is crap. A five year old's finger-painting can be taken as a masterpiece (and has in the past.) I am not saying I support the notion that writing skills are no longer important. I simply pointed out the popular works of today lack said writing skills. For me, I do not...
