    Honest Criticism? (cover art)

Admittedly it is pretty hard (at least for me) to wrap around how the leaves of a colossal tree are supposed to look. The foreground and the detail of the roots of the righthand tree are truly stunning. Does your husband have any of his other works that can be viewed like other book covers or...

I do! But it's ultra top secret. Just kidding, I do have the beginning of what I hope to be a novel. My idea is that the races of this setting were driven to extinction over the ages as a result of their hostility and isolationism, leaving humanity to face an elusive enemy alone once the false...

    Honest Criticism? (cover art)

Wow, that is a beautiful cover. The concept is brilliant. The only criticism I have is that the top of the left-hand tree doesn't really look like the top of a tree. It looks... moppish? It was definitely jarring to me upon first viewing it.

    The Kingmaker Cover Art

I like the first one. It is definitely eye-catching, the details of the silver leaves and the crown are exquisite. However, I feel that the blood might be too heavy-handed. I think the effect would be more impactful if it was subtler - what if you took out the blood on the crown and most of the...

    Having issues creating conflict

The threat of approaching winter is really promising. The conflict, I think, most naturally derives from how this society responds to this. You could tie this in with the history and lore of your setting. Maybe the last winter was very cruel and resulted in harsh decisions being made. Various...

    Getting lost.

Do the three storylines have to converge at the same time? My observation is that a lot of authors, within fantasy and without, try to have them all meet at once. They like the elegance of the parallel structure. It might be more original to have two of them meet before the other, then link up...

Is working on two projects better?

Are you at an impasse because you already know what the next scene will be and are just having trouble getting through it? Or is it that you're not sure how to progress the storyline? They're different problems. If the issue is a lull in creativity, I don't think working on two projects will...

When the title doesn't make sense

I like Dragon of the Islands. Right away it sparks the curiosity of the reader - "Could this feature a dragon as the protagonist instead of a human? I've never read that before." It sets it apart as unique. So many series involve dragons as another creature, or playing the part of the hero's...

    Salutations

Hi, I'm a undergrad in university majoring in electrical engineering, but I've always had the writing bug. One thing I've done for years is keep a top secret log-file of sentences and pieces of descriptive imagery I came up with, and want to use in a novel of my own. I'm a voracious reader as...
