Very entertaining and thought-provoking. I don't agree with everything, and I don't think I've come across as many dismal books as she has, but there are some decent points here.
Haha! Loved the bit particularly about the work space. I painted my office in calming blue tones and set it up to 'fuel my muse' - I never, ever write in there. It's become more of a storage space for books, guitars and research. I sit at my desk in my bedroom or on my bed, or I write in a...
Most of the slang and ways of speaking mentioned here is also very heavily used in parts of Australia. It is in my circle, anyway. Half eight makes perfect sense to me!
Though I've been to the US twice, before reading this, I honestly didn't realise just how different language was in America...
This is quite interesting.
When I was in Shanghai I went to the museum and spent some hours in the coin section. Looking at the depictions of people was very fascinating.
And your shared comment definitely puts history into perspective. A little like showing modern humans in the greater...
Go with forest or jungle. If you stick with forest, you can describe your characters complaining about humidity or rainfall (for example) - and I think most readers will get the idea that it's kind of a jungle, or it's Cretaceous/Jurassic (etc) in nature, if you describe some basic tree types or...
I use redundant correctly.

What is with 'conversate'? I've never heard that term. Ever.
Nauseous, however - I've always thought it meant to feel sick. :\
Yeah it was entertaining, but cheesy is the right word. Also, season 1 didn't work on my DVD player. And the storyline was seriously lacking.
I've never read the King Killer series! I should get the books before the show comes out. They look pretty decent; I've been looking at the author's website.
Cheers, had a quick look (on my way to bed). Story looks intriguing, but to me I would find those chapters short for my liking. It wouldn't stop me reading it though. And if it's what you like to read, then write what you like to read. Isn't that what everybody constantly says around here? ;)...
James Patterson is a best-seller thriller writer and he uses short chapters. A lot of people like this because short chapters make the book a page turner and increase the pace considerably if done right. I personally don't like his books, but for a thriller it's a good way to leave lots of...
This should probably become a separate forum. I think there was a discussion about fan fic somewhere?
With the evolving internet comes new challenges. It's not just challenging for journalism, but for all writers. But exciting, too, with new opportunities.
Interesting quotes. I think new writers who read these sorts of things need to read it critically. Nobody is going to agree or disagree 100% about someone else's point of view or journey as a writer.
With regards to fan fiction - Robin Hobb once said she felt fan fic writers were 'raping' her...
