Chapter I
In the open doorway stood two large men. Their long shadows stretched across the dimly lit tavern. Their green-sleeved shirts and thick leather coats of armor branded them as Brigandines—the royal guards of Keeptown and elite warriors of Veredon.
“We’re looking for the outlaw who...
Sounds strange maybe, but I think the original Sid Meier Civilization game helped me appreciate history a bit more. If anything, it kind of helps you see where things (technology, political and philosophical ideas) came from and what came before them. Things don't just magically appear in...
I downloaded a free copy of Game of Thrones and Harry Potter in the Sorcerer's Stone on my laptop/tablet, but I only read the first two chapters of each. Maybe I didn't read them because they were free (which seems to be a strange phenomenom with e-readers), but I still prefer real books from...
Someone purchased the rights for the film, and magically it became the Today's show book club pick. It's supposed to be the next Hunger Games, and the author is already being compared to J.K. Rowling. So have you read it? What did you think? I was a bit confused, because according to the Amazon...
Our local newsletter, which really is mostly real estate ads, high school sports, and crime reports does some local author highlights. Just today I read this article about this retired Boeing engineer (maybe something different) who wrote a novel about Cold War espionage. Anyway, it wasn't a...
BWFoster78 is right. You should try posting something you're convinced needs work in the showcase. I was once stuck in a rut and I posted a scene looking for suggestions and I got some very helpful feedback.

Sounds like you need a break, and from what I've read from the other posts, it seems like it's a common feeling. One day soon, you'll look back at what you wrote and then sit down and finish writing out your story. What got me writing was unemployment. Fortunately, I was rehired months later...
I recently came across Shelfari. I was just wonder what folks (both readers and writers) thought about it.
So, what do you think about Shelfari? Do you use it? Do you like it?
After reading the groovy synopsis, I read the sample on Amazon. I really like the concept. It reminds me of Troilus and Cressida, you know, the Trojan War retold through the eyes of two characters you've never heard of. Anyway, what I read was fun and had cute dialogue.
Best of luck!
I've been doing a lot of editing lately, so I'm doing A LOT of rereading. I've been using my laptop/tablet instead of my desktop, and I keep my work open in two documents: the .doc file and the PDF file. I prefer reading the PDF, then going back to fix the .doc as I'm reading. It may seem like...
