The Sleeping Warrior, my debut novel

I'm delighted to have just published my debut novel, The Sleeping Warrior, under my own imprint Ivy Moon Press. The book can roughly be categorised as an urban fantasy. I'm really an epic fantasy writer but decided to defy the boundaries of publishing genres and write what I would want to read...

So is most self-published material poorly edited?

A result of staff and freelance budget cuts in publishing houses, no doubt.

    The curse of a perfectionist

Didn't Stephen King say: "Don't get it right, just get it written"?

So is most self-published material poorly edited?

Thanks Chilari. It's fun to be here and I'm getting so much out of this site. The most common problem I find with first time authors is that, although most have good plots and a great story to tell, their writing lets them down. It's really common when you first venture out into the world of...

    Starting point

I designed it but can't take all the credit. Used a Photoshop tutorial for the smoke and adapted it for the design of my début novel (which I haven't finished yet). A phase of writer's block forced me to produce something visual that would inspire me. It worked!

Thank you Ireth. Have no idea what to do next or how to navigate this site but I hope to learn quickly. Best wishes

    Starting point

A big hello to all Mythic Scribes, I'm a journalist living in rural Scotland and, between flower shows, art exhibition launches and music reviews, am a writer of fantasy fiction. Not published yet and, after Benjamin Clayborne's advice for new writers to ditch epic for a short story, am...

So is most self-published material poorly edited?

Apologies for the long post. It's my first one on this forum (or any forum to that matter) and I'm on a roll. I'm an arts editor and trained as a sub-editor for a Scottish newspaper. I can't read even a menu without finding a spelling mistake. Quite a few self-published novels of local writers...
