Agree with most of what is said above. I'd also add - I don't think anyone else has said this, anyway - that posting short stories for free is a good way to boost your writing reputation, as you're essentially giving people a sample of what they can expect in the stuff they'll have to buy...
I am CONVINCED that my copy of that game glitched when I was a kid. I played it with my brother and a friend of his, and we got stuck just before getting to the Dragon Lord's castle. We had every item you needed to make the bridge thing, and confirmation that we'd collected everything we needed...
Bear in mind, too, the influence money has in loosening tongues - I'm sure casual acquaintances of the fugitive in question would be more than happy to give up physical and personal details that might lead to an arrest if some gold was on the line. Put the fugitive's name out there and people...
Whenever I approach religion, I tend to create the society in which that religion exists first. That way, I know how the religion in general is going to work, what kind of god(s) will fit into it, and how it will fit into the story - for example, a culture that's heavily steeped in magic might...
Though it borders multiple genres (what book doesn't these days?), the last couple books of The Dark Tower series were disappointing compared to the beginning and middle. The general story didn't bother me so much - the final confrontation at the Dark Tower itself was pretty neat - but King's...
As with pretty much everybody else in the thread, I agree that magic is far from compulsory in fantasy. In some stories it's just not gonna fit, so why risk messing up a perfectly good story just to fit with expectations?
Thanks for the warm welcome, y'all. And for those who think I'm funny now, just wait - I run out of material fast. Soon my posts will consist of nothing but Futurama references.
As for projects, one will be in my signature shortly. It's an ongoing fantasy daily called Dragomir's Diary. All...
Anything and everything can serve as inspiration. Snippets of conversation, songs, games, random thoughts, dreams... it's amazing how concepts that seem so far apart can be woven together with a little creativity.
I'm split between Final Fantasy VI, the game that really got me into RPGs in the first place (I'd played others before it, but they didn't grab me) and Earthbound, which is just so wonderfully quirky.
Pathfinder rules, but the Shackled City DnD 3.5 campaign. I'm playing a poor Kenku Rogue who once fancied himself a superhero in the making, but has since lost his mind after many beatings, three axes to the face (seriously, he got put on the brink of death by three separate incidents involving...
I've only played Rifts, DnD 3.5 and Pathfinder, with a one-session dip into a Transformers RPG, and I have to go with Pathfinder. I don't RP as much as I'd probably like, though, so I've no doubt that there are better systems out there - I get real tired of being smoked by high-level monsters in...
I'm here now. And if that doesn't make me sound like an egotistical prig, nothing does.
Anyway. Hi. I'm an aspiring writer with more ideas than real-world success. I have various projects on the go - I won't plug 'em just yet, for fearing of being banned as a shamelessly self-promoting robot...
