Unfortunately, my mind immediately goes to the TV Tropes page, 'Heroic Blue Screen of Death' [or Heroic BSD for short]. I say unfortunately because I spent way too much time on TV Tropes in the past. These days I avoid it by virtue of it not accepting my adblocker, and refusing to show any pages...
Technically the first story I ever wrote was when I was 4 or 5. Just a bunch of scribblings in a small notebook. It featured a magic whirlpool [incorrectly written as 'worldpool' more than once] that would isekai little me and several stuffed animals off on adventures.
As for the first...
Ah, a classic portal fantasy setup. Will your characters have difficulty living on Earth again after all of their experiences, or is the actual journey going to take centre stage?
Hi, and welcome to the forum. Obligatory newcomer spiel: you need 5 posts [commenting on other peoples' posts count] to access the whole forum. To get a wider audience, you could post your writing in the critique request or story showcase, or make a portfolio.
I feel that a few important questions to ask for any scene are:
1) What does the reader need to know right now?
2) What needs to be foreshadowed or hinted at for later developments?
3) What do the characters need to know right now?
Figuring out how to organically add information might be one...
Sorry to be pedantic, but Other M doesn't explain anything about Samus' backstory, much less about her parents being killed nor why Ridley is important. But I hate Other M with the fury of a thousand suns for a loooong list of reasons, so I'll focus on your actual question.
My ideal Metroid...
When I was in high school, around the time when I read the Silmarillion for the first time, I took a stab at making a conlang. I didn't get very far beyond words for different types of light, darkness, and love, plus a handful of other words. Some of them did become important names/places in...
Since deities of death tend to get a bad rap more often than not, changing the goddess' domain into life instead could make for more interesting storylines and character dynamics. [You're under no obligation to change anything, mind. I'm the type of writer who's always asking 'but what...
You're probably right. A month or so ago, I toned down the ending after realizing that I was [yet again] being too cruel to my characters.
My biggest source of frustration during writing is knowing that no matter how hard I try to make the most accurate descriptions, it'll never match up to the...
When I was going through some really rough times, years where I didn't know if I'd ever be happy again, I found solace and an escape of sorts, in my writing. Even if it did mean that during the darkest parts, sometimes it felt like the universe had it in for the characters to the point of...
This has got me thinking, when was the last time I actually finished something story-related besides expanding on various worldbuilding? The answer is........6 years ago. 😅 I keep thinking, oh, maybe if I can focus enough, I'll actually get something done, even a short story, maybe tomorrow...
Plenty. 😅 Probably among the worst is that in my first serious attempt at an actual story, the love interest went to the Twilight School of Romance [watching the main character while she slept]. I have absolutely no idea why I added that, especially given my burning hatred of Twilight back then.
