I did read lotr only because the movies were coming and 'now or never'.

Why did you feel you had to read them because the movies were coming out? Why feel the need to read them at all?

I was holding back for a long time because of my aversion to 'books you have to read'. I wanted to read them because I was curious but afraid.
The problem with a movie is you get the images printed in your head. The "director's cut" of how the characters are supposed to be. So for me, reading the books after the movie doesn't work as well. While the movies are good, I am glad I did manage to read first and create my own images.

There are books I never finished and could enjoy the movie but it is very rare. Foundation comes to mind. Many people do like the books but I'm not one of them. I know it is also a sci-fi classic. I didn't even finish the book.

This spark is the answer to the question. Whatever the inner motivation, it was there. If it were not there, wandering a fantasy writer site would not be something one would do. If there is no curiosity towards fantasy, and the craft, there is no reason join a fantasy writers site. If you do not have any curiosity about LOTR, I would question any true interest in the art. You cannot get here without knowing of that.

I do not know why I am here, to be honest I don't think I fit in here but not because there is stuff I did or did not read or movies I did not watch.

PS: I don't know why I am here either. I think there are certainly people here I would not really fit in with. But there is not other reason needed than, I want to be. We are glad to have you here.

I watch a ton of movies but only the ones I like, same with games.
There are a few of both mediums I want to See/Play myself because they're so highly regarded and/or Memed on.
But I don't really watch stuff like The God Father because I 'have' to see it. I want to see it because I'm curious why it's so hype, but that's about it.

Also I want to vent about something and I wonder if anyone here finds this as silly as I do.

Lately (Since the past...5 ish years ago?) Movies have been opening with a 'we love what we worked on and we're so proud to present it to you blah blah' segment before the movie. It doesn't bother me that much (I mostly roll my eyes at it) but like, why? Bro I'm already watching the film and paid for the tickets why are you giving me a 'like and subscribe to the channel' speech lol

There's actually a lot I have never seen, mostly because I have never gotten the chance to see them. Also, I don't watch movies that often, anyway. When I do, it's usually some kung fu film or Indiana Jones-y stuff. Then again, I'm squeamish, so a few of them might be too intense for me.

I did technically see Casablanca, but it's been so long I don't recall much about it other than it's in black and white and the last line of the movie is something along the lines of "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

I also saw a little bit of the Shining, but fell asleep half way through (long work shift) and never got to finish it.

I know it's probably blasphemous to say, especially on a fantasy writing forum, but I could never get into Lord of the Rings (neither the books nor the movies.) I think I'm to ADHD for it.

Maybe I am just not paying attention, but I have not noticed this at all. Usually that is what the opening credits are for. If they are doing this, then I feel like it is warranted. Short form video platforms have proven that, not only does doing this sort of thing not turn people away from your video, but it might actually be an effective tool towards getting what you want.

Probably too many to list, but a few glaring omissions from my backlog:

The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile; I have seen so many terrible Stephen King adaptations - like Graveyard Shift, The Langoliers, The Mangler 2 - that it's honestly silly I haven't seen the ones that are highly acclaimed classics.

I hope to at least get to Ran this year, but we'll see if the mood strikes for the others.

I just feel like when left to my own personal preferences stuff like Stephen King just does not make it to the top of my list. Even though, I am still working on things that are just as old as that, so the time frame works, there are still so many things from that era that make it above those kinds of movies and then newer stuff is more interesting and also beats it for me.

I'm more of a Clive Barker girl when it comes to that generation of horror, but King's my mother's favorite author so I've seen a lot of his movies.

Some of his movies are only Ironically good, like that one about Trucks coming alive. Saw I have not seen but I can also not take it seriously AT ALL.
I've heard it's good but from the outside looking in, it looks hella goofy.

There's also one about a guy who gets pregnant with him in it but I forget the name lol
