Are asteroid collisions as dangerous as they seem?

    I think skip says it best. If they het hit by an asteroid they die. End of story.

    But asteroids in the asteroid belt are not close to each other. They are millions of miles apart. The ship will not likely hit one. For smaller impacts give the ship a shield of some sort.

    I saw you included meteors. Meteors are not in space. In space they are just asteroids. They only become meteors when they hit an atmosphere and catch fire. Comets are the other moving body.

    I saw you said the aliens have two thumbs so they can hold on. Errrr...no. If they get hit by an asteroid they die. There is no hilding on. Maybe, if they are really lucky they just get grazed by an asteroid, but even that is astronomically unlikely. Give the ship a shield or a good early warming mechanism and call it done.
