I know that Goodreads was plagued with 'revenge reviewers' who gave out one-star ratings to authors they hated. In all the Goodreads review groups I participated in, I only saw one reviewer hand out a one-star review - and that book was horrible in terms of plot, writing style, and characterization. I almost gave it two stars, but upped it to three at the last minute because of the effort.

Yeah...I am a softy. I give one star more than I think I should sometimes. Being a writer is hard. I have sympathy.

The only book I wanted to ding though was just a retelling one of our elections. Its not really my type of humor, and even admitting that, I still found it unfunny.

Picked up another from authentic. But somehow am on track for 24 and not 25. Gonna have to hit them one more time.

Well...with the last reading round completed, I still have 23 reviews, and did not reach the 25 I was after. I am not sure how the math ended up being so wrong. but... I have gone back to Authentic for the remaining two. I see their library is getting backed up, and I just cleared out 4 of them, by leaving my own reviews to get points.

Dale Roberts self help books are all over it. I find it hard to believe he is reading enough to get enough points to post so many things. He must have worked something out with them.

In the reading round, I really struggled reading the last book assigned to me. I just reached my reading limit and didn't want to do it anymore.

For whatever reason, several of my last reviewers from Authentic/Bookroar were from Australia, and those reviews took ages to show up elsewhere.

All of my Bookroar reviews were foreign, and took a while to show up. Some of them do not show up on the US marketplace. I would use bookroar again, but Authentic is much easier to use. Like any place though, not so many want the longer books.

Well...Just got notified of another review going up from Authentic, but when I go to look, its not there...

Its a little aggravating, cause really I should have enough reviews to be at 28-30, but I am still lingering at 23. 25, of course, has been my goal for a while. Show the damn reviews please, Amazon. They are legit, they just are not from the US. Grrrr....

In regards to my review from an Authentic type that got all my character names wrong, Authentic asked them to fix it and they did. So...I am happy now, and I have 25 reviews :) I started up the ads again. 2 clicks so far, which is a greater rate than before, but....no sales ;) course, I just started it last night. I will hit up some other places soon.

Bookroar is switching to a subscription service in January. The fee for the basic package (5 reviews) is slightly higher than what Authentic charges. As I have only nine reviews with them, I might go for it.

Well. If they switch to a pay for system over a karma system there will be no reason for anyone to read what is posted there. I like authentic better anyway.

As I understand it, Bookroar [lans to follow the same model as Authentic. That said, I prefer Authentic.

So it is pay for the privilege and karma after. I hope they use the money to improve the interface.

Authentic dings me $3 and change a month. Compared to the rates at some of the other book pools...

But yes, Authentic is way easier to deal with than Bookroar.

I notice that while i have 25 reviews i dont have 25 written ones. A smattering are just star ratings. I might hit authentic or goodreads again. I am not sure if i will use book roar again.

Bookroar sent me an email announcing that they are going to a subscription service, and boy are they excited. For just $6.00 a month, I can read up to five books and get points to post my own....

Or...I can pay them, and then do their work for them. Somehow, I dont see this working out for them. And that is just the lowest tier plan. I could go with premium for like $20.00 month, so I can read more books, and get more points.

Sorry, if the fee is small enough, I won't shrug, but really you want me to pay you to do work for you. If I am paying, I want to just buy the credits and skip doing the work. I think this will hurt them more than help. There are just other places I could go, and with a better website design.

Yeah, I got the same notice. On the one hand, I had just ten reviews from them last year, compared with about sixty from Authentic. On the other hand, I would not have gotten most of those ten reviews from Authentic.

I am debating trying Bookroar for a month and seeing if it is worthwhile.

I'd wait till they use those funds to create a better interface, and then try them again.

Every review I got from them ended up in a foreign portion of Amazon and did not show on the main page. I had to go complain to get them to show.

60 from Authentic? You have been busy.

Most of my foreign reviews from Bookroar and Authentic did eventually show up on the main Amazon site.

Those, and the ones from Authentic, were spread out among a lot of books, most of which still have only 5-8 reviews.
