Feeding the horses

It is "nag" that is an older horse. "Hag" is an older woman.
It does appear that ‘nag’ is apparently an older pony (a small horse) that can no longer be used for work - but again, I’ve never heard the term in use. Is it used where you’re from or another country?

I'm from Croatia, so no. But I have come across it a few times, including over at Tolkien Forum where we have a few rather old members.
