Got told AI did a better job than me.

Actually, I would like to reassure you that this will never happen, and it will never happen because of the way LLMs are trained. AI writing is only as good as its input, and its input is the totality of writing available on the internet. All the terrible, barely-started stories on sites like fanfiction.net and AO3 go into it and lower its writing quality. That's not even including the fact that there is now so much AI slop floating around that finding new, uncontaminated training data for the AIs is becoming a problem for AI devs.

Yeah. Youre right. I suppose everything that could be invented has already been invented. No improvements or new innovations coming from this field.

I feel ive been round and round on AI enough. I will just state…if I know you are using AI, I will not help you.

If you want my opinion of AI, it is here at the bottom. Otherwise…

Well, I suppose we could have another breakthrough in AI technology that supercedes LLMs and neural networks, but as far as they go, AI writers will never be better than the best human writers. It's just a limitation of the technology.

As for never using AI, well, I do think that there are legitimate uses for it, even as a writer. For example, I think it can help with writer's block by giving you ideas. Even if you never use those ideas, they can make you think about the issue from a different perspective. It's kind of like talking to someone except you don't have to wait around for someone else nor take up their time with your stuff.

Actually it’s quite good at teaching me stuff and doesn’t get pissed when I ask how to do something for 29th time like my coding friends lmao.

Personal experience, you best learn how to code (or do anything really) by just having a project where you need to code and just start coding. I can see how AI can help there in the same way that people just go to Stackoverflow and copy code they find there. Except AI is easier to ask why something isn't working. I'm sure it's great at spotting that one missing ; which would otherwise take an hour to find...

So if used correctly, I can see how it would work to help with coding. Just don't make it code everything for you without understanding what it actually does.

If you feel like your whole live can be "assaulted" by one simple, probably jokeful criticism, that is not healthy (and yes, might be due to depression). Not having enough distance between you and your writing, between praise/criticism and your worth, is making you unnecessarily fragile. You are not perfect, none of us are - and that's fine. The more resilient you get in the face of criticism, the better for your whole life. Spoken as someone who struggles with this as well, by the way.
I would encourage you to get less defensive and more curious in situations like these, maybe asking some questions along the lines of:
"What did you like better about the AI ideas than mine?"
"Was there something in particular you preferred about the AIs output, like a specific idea?"
"In what way were you able to use the story ideas so far?"
"What made you decide to use AI?"
Having a more precise statement and a clearer understanding might give you more peace of mind.

Not to dismiss the rest of your comment because you bring up some good points, but you don't think I was actually saying I was assaulted right? Like, it was a bit on the nose that it was an exaggeration for the sake of humor.

I dont know that it should worry you. Some of the greatest minds on the planet are working on AI everyday to make it so that it is more capable than us. Its bound to overtake us all. You just worry about you. Stay with anything long enough, and you will become an old pro.

Yes yes I got your meaning:). I still felt like that actually bothered you and just meant to say to take it less personal. By the way, the AI got to play with your ideas, so of course it was able to go further with them. If you had been given a list of AI generated prompts you could have also developed them into something more.

Question, what is an AI prompt? Is it just a story idea, like...write me a story about a boy with a magic quill, or do you mean, it spit out some paragraphs of text and I get to edit them?

Mwa like... Ai "prompts" are quite different from story prompts. Anything you type into Ai as an assignment, is called a prompt.
"Tell me if my parents love me" and "can guinea pigs wear top hats" can be AI prompts. So "write a story about a boy living in the wilds with guinea pigs", can also be a prompt, yes. Then the Ai will go on and output somehing.
