Hey there.
I'm Michael. I am a father of 3 teenage daughters, in my early 50s, and an avid reader of fantasy (especially comedic) who is finally trying his hand at writing again.
I have a daughter who is also a writer and often writes fantasy. I am writing a story with her, where we each write from the perspective a separate character (a father and daughter) who were both transported together to a world with magic, classes, probably some cultivation aspects and likely some game elements, as well. We don't have a working title for the project. The working title for the chapter I am currently working on, which introduces the father to the new world and explores character creation, is "The Koala of Chaos."
I am hoping to find a few people I can bounce things off of, in exchange for the same.
Apart from having read a lot of fantasy, sci-fi, and mythology over the years, areas of life experience I have that might be of assistance to someone include:
- I am a long-time devoted martial artist (primarily aikido, but have studied many over the years, including: Wing Chun, Karate, Iaido, and others),
- I am a lawyer (not likely a lot of use, but who knows), and a former first-aid attendant,
- I have a bachelor's degree in "Asian Studies." This means I have studied history, geography, philosophy, religion, and literature of Japan, China and parts of Southeast Asia (I realize that is a ridiculously large and diverse area. I don't pretend to be an expert)
- I speak Japanese (though I've lost a lot over the years). Although I have studied Mandarin, I've never been conversant in it.
- I am an archer and occasional bow-hunter, and
- I enjoy the outdoors (hiking, hunting, mountain climbing, camping - "survival skills")
