Hello from The Netherlands

Hi everyone,

I am Daan (39 years old) and from the Netherlands. I will be your new digital neighbour and friend.

For the past seven years I've been working on a far too ambitious first epic fantasy novel of which I have recently decided that I would like to try publication. I am currently still very busy outlining and improving the main characters and plot. Which as you know can be a lot of work, but so far I am enjoying every bit of it. I love learning about storybuilding and themes and characterization. And look forward to spending some more time in this phase before moving on to hopefully writing the first draft a few months from now.

My background is mostly in education. I used to play table top roleplaying games a lot. And worked two odd years as a professional seo copy writer. Also, I love audiobooks and discovered some of my favorite authors that way, such as Joe Abercrombie, G.R.R. Martin, Christian Cameron and Brandon Sanderson.

Joining Mythic Scribes will probably mean dealing with a lot of friendly, creative and inspiring people, but I'm fine with that.

I will help you stay motivated. No, just kidding: you guys will probably help me out a lot more. And keep me on track.

Look forward to connecting with you! Thanks ๐Ÿ™

Welcome to Mythic Scribes, Daan! Looking forward to being neighbours! And of course, all of us would love to know more about your novel and more about yourself, too! Don't be afraid to share whatever's on your mind, whether story-related or not, we are all a big family here!

Also good luck with your novel! Looking forward to reading it someday!

Hoi Daan! Great to have you here. I've been working on and failing at elaborate epic & historical fantasy settings for many years. Last December I called it quits and started a much less ambitious project, and things suddenly clicked for me ^.^ But that's me and you is you! I love that you're sticking to the greater project, and wish you all the inspiration in the world while making it :D

Where about are you from (if you want to share)? Ik zit in Den Haag.

Hi there and welcome to Mythic Scribes! We're happy to have you along.

I still do SEO content writing, so congrats for getting out of such soul-crushing work ๐Ÿ˜‚ but in all seriousness it's great you've been able to focus so much on developing one novel. I get distracted by too many ideas way too fast!

Hi Diana, thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, odds are I will probably end up reaching the same conclusion.๐Ÿ˜€ However, the project's still very dear to my heart and I want to give it a serious go. The journey is part of the reward as well. If it doesn't work out I'll switch to single POV instead.
By the way: Den Haag๐Ÿ‘ I'm in Haarlem.

Hi Dollyt8,

Thanks for having me๐Ÿ™ Great to be here.

Yeah๐Ÿ˜‚ I know what you mean regarding SEO. I did learn how to work fast and be creative despite having little info to draw from. However, most of what I wrote was search engine only, which is a pity. That wasn't very fullfilling

but in all seriousness it's great you've been able to focus so much on developing one novel. I get distracted by too many ideas way too fast!
Thanks! Is there a specific story you are working on currently?

Personally at this stage I prefer to focus on one project at a time.

But I've heard some famous authors say they work on multiple projects at the same time.

Welcome, from the Great Lakes (North America)! I love Joe Abercrombie, and Brandon Sanderson. I also have a fondness for TTRPG (DnD, and WoD, mostly. Shout out to 3.5e!) Audiobooks aren't number one for me, but I listen to them a lot. I work in a factory setting, as well as on my own farm, so it's easy to pop in headphones while I work or do my chores. I have gotten through so many books that I wouldn't have had the "time" for before.

I hope you find, and reciprocate, what you are wanting. Enjoy.
