Help Build a Fantasy & Sci-Fi Universe

I’m looking for 5-12 passionate volunteers (preferably 18+) to join me in creating a rich and immersive fantasy and sci-fi universe. The project will involve developing new creatures, races, planets, cultures, languages, politics, fashion, and much more. While experience is welcome, no prior experience is necessary—just a deep passion for world-building and creativity!

The universe will have a gritty and darker tone, with morally gray factions and no clear-cut heroes or villains. However, I aim to keep the setting balanced—leaving room for hope, joy, and love amidst its complexities.

What You’ll Be Helping With:

• Designing Creatures & Races: Contribute to the creation of unique and imaginative beings.
• Building Worlds & Planets: Help shape diverse and detailed environments.
• Creating Cultures & Languages: Develop distinct societies, languages, and political systems.
• Game Systems & Settings: Collaborate on developing RPG settings and mechanics similar to Dungeons & Dragons, and beyond.
• Collaboration & Creativity: Work together on platforms like Discord, Google Docs, and World Anvil to bring this universe to life.

Project Details:

• Timeline: This will be a long-term effort, spanning 14 months or more. We’ll have occasional project calls (once or twice a month) to keep everyone updated and connected.
• End Goal: The universe we create will eventually expand into an RPG world, wargame, video game franchise, manga/anime/TV shows, and novels. Once the foundations are in place, I plan to launch a Kickstarter to fund these projects, and any funds will be used to compensate volunteers for their contributions.

I don't want to sound discouraging, but I think a bit more information would be required for most people to decide whether or not people are interested in this project. You're definitely in the right place if you're looking for people who are passionate about world-building, the catch of course being that pretty much everybody here is working on their own world building projects, and will probably be reluctant to take time out of their own projects in order to work on someone else's.

That said, the End Goal with the hope of compensation will probably help to motivate people. People like money. Money is nice. Still, whether or not people will spend over a year of their time working on this project will depend heavily on 1. How much money they are expecting to be compensated. 2. How likely they believe the Kickstarter is to succeed.

So, a few questions about the project.

1. Have you ever created a Kickstarter, or something similar, that has been successful before?

2. Do you have a monetary goal in mind for the Kickstarter? If so, how much can the volunteers expect to be compensated if the Kickstarter is successful?

3. What is the Kickstarter actually for? You say the End Goal is for an RPG world, wargame, video game franchise, manga/anime/TV shows and novels. But no franchise, no matter how successful, can be all those things in one go. Pokemon was a GameBoy game before it was a manga, anime and trading card game. What is it that you're aiming for your franchise to begin as?

This sounds like an epic project! Building a gritty, morally gray universe with such depth and detail is a dream for any fantasy/sci-fi fan. I am interested in joining you in your endeavor to create a new series of worlds and races of beings there. I have an idea about a race who are serpent like. They usually try to appear as if they are human. Theye also have an interest in necromancy. They appear to be wizards, or so they appear to be. They can speak to the dead.

They are currently trying to aid a community into having them be under their rule. They are telepathic, they wish to not be realized to be serpents. They are a violent race. Their magic is strong, it is based upon a stone that they carry with them. If the stone is out of their reach, their disquise vanishes. They want to rule over the races that they face.

At the moment they have an interest in a kingdom where the stones are prevailent to be found. If the stones are polished they will have more power from these stones.
