Hey, I'm new!

My name is Tori, and I decided to register because everybody on here is so nice and supportive! My family isn't all that supportive because I'm young, and they want me to go through college and everything before I really pursue this. My friends want to read what I write and help out, but during the writing process, when I want tips and advice, they don't usually know what kind of advice to give, and only really want to read. (And I can't rely purely on Jenna Moreci Youtube vlogs for advice.)
I read so much, and I enjoy it so much, that I decided as soon as I figured out that books didn't just magically appear on shelves in bookstores/the library that I wanted to write my own. I can hardly go through a week without a new idea crowding into my head, but I've developed the current story I'm writing so far that I think I'll be sticking with this one.
You all seem very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable! I'm excited to work with and get advice from everyone! :D
Any tips and tricks are completely welcome!

Hail and well met ToriWithaStory

That is a great moment, when you realise that there is a someone that actually writes the stuff we find to read.
And an even better one when you realise that maybe, just maybe, you can write the stuff too!
[ I can't really comment about going to college since I work at a university so I'm probably biased... Go! Go! Go! ]

Hi Tori, welcome to the forum. If I might suggest an additional resource, try the Writing Excuses podcast (especially the season 10 master class might be very useful to you). It's an excellent source for writing advice and tips. And Howard is hilarious.

Besides that, having a bunch of writers that can help and support you (as in this forum) will go a long way. Enjoy the ride!

Welcome to the community!

Being young is awesome! I began writing when I was 21. Of course...I'll be turning 36 in a month, and I just finally think I know a little about writing! HA! This community is great for helping and advice. Whatever path you choose in life, there's always a reason to write, and I think most folks will tell anyone who will listen that writing is one of the toughest ways to make money. I mean...to date, I've made less as a writer than I did as a 12-year old babysitter :(

Keep your chin up and do what you love. Even if you pursue an education and a career. Especially if you do, because writing is a great way to balance the real world, I've found. But it's a hard way to gain confidence, because in the early years, it's mostly an uphill battle, followed by a steep slope.

Hope you get the support you need here!
