Is it common to post lengthy stories?

On this website? Let's say, I write and submit a page each week to the same story in one topic. Is this something people ordinarily do around here? Or is it better to just post short stories and novel excerpts?

Sure you can. Sheilawisz does something like that with her various flash fiction parodies, which are quite the hit.
