It's alive!

So that’s the bit that intrigues me. Do you type the words in, or do you dictate them? And when you think about your plot, how accurate is the writing to your thoughts?

You see, my problem is that I spend a lot of time thinking about my writing, usually when I’m at work, because I have a physical day job I get that time to think, then I get excited to write it all down in whichever way possible when I get home in the evening or whenever I have free time…but it just doesn’t come out the same way in which I imagined it. How do you hold it in your mind until you write it down? Dialogue particularly. That is my crux. Is it going to translate as more natural sounding if I dictate it rather than write it.

Nothing I write comes out the way it played in my head earlier in the day. But it gets close enough to keep.

I type it all. It's much easier these days given the specialised spelling and grammar tools that I use.

Usually the written story follows my original concept, but sometimes these character "actions" take the story in a new and usually much better direction through the story arc.

How do I hold it in my mind? Practice. When you're as dyslexic as I am you tend to develop a very good working memory to compensate, because you have to listen to what is said and remember it rather than relying on being able to read something later.
