Past tense, past tense, present tense...Bah!

98% of the time, when I'm doing a summary for a story, be it just a chapter or the whole thing, I start off writing in past tense. Then at some point I magically transition to present tense without realising it, and only notice it afterwards when I've finished writing and am reading the whole thing, the result being a monstrosity (I hate doing summaries in present tense ). It's even worse when I go away for a while, then resume and continue writing in past tense, only to default back to present tense before long.

Probably not a big deal to most people, but makes me want to start flipping tables over. :p

Do you have any irritating habits when it comes to planning and writing?

I got a variation on your issue. Sometimes when I'm writing a scene I get so into it I shift from past tense to present.
