Kia ora guys!
My name is Kingi, and I'm a budding fantasy author hailing from a small country called New Zealand. I'm of Maori descent, which is the indigenous people of the whenua (land) and I've careened down the path of creative writing through so many formats over the years (I wrote Rap and other types of music as a youth, which led to poetry > short story writing > a full blown fantasy writing addiction) and I eventually arrived here.
I don't have any fancy literature degree to be honest (my bachelor and work history is in construction management) but I think my unique circumstances and life experiences have filled me with stories that are worth telling, I just hope I learn to write well enough that one day they're equally worth hearing

Hello TKE
This is a great place to learn and share.
Leap on in and enjoy.
[What I think of most when it comes to NZ/Aotearoa is some really off-beat horror films like Black Sheep]

Hiii! Dutchy here, meaning we are officially from opposite sides of the earth :D Can I tick the "Maori culture" box if I know it exists, or only if I can tell you at least three interesting facts about it? Asking for a friend...

[EDIT] No actually, I know waka boats, haka and I'm prertty sure you just taught me how to say hello... So I hereby submit my three interesting facts and go ahead ticking that box! Now you can and throw tulips, windmills and wooden shoes in my face, I won't be mad.

Literary degrees not required. I hope you'll share some of your stories here one day!

Fijne dag :D

Kia ora, Kingi, Your journey from rap to poetry to fantasy writing is incredible, your unique voice and Māori heritage will bring something truly special to the genre. No fancy degree needed; life experience and passion are your best tools. Keep honing your craft, and those stories will shine. Can’t wait to read what you create.

Kia ora Diana! You actually know quite a bit already which is crazy but also awesome to me, seeing as you're Dutch! Wooden clogs to the face would leave a mark so I won't do any of that lol But I'm wondering if you own a bicycle with a basket at the front

Fijne dag to you too :D

Hi TKR. Welcome to the site! 😁
Feel like the poll should have an extra section for, "I know Lord of the Rings was shot there!" 😝
That's a great point actually! I always forget that The Shire movie set is about 2 hours drive from my house lol I think the guys around here look more like Orcs than Hobbits though

Thank you so much Dylan, your kind words are inspiring. I really appreciate it brother 🤞

Before Lord of the Rings, it was The Legendary Journeys of Hercules, and Xena- Warrior Princess (with Xena being played by NZ actress Lucy Lawless). Also, a lot of actors/actresses Australia tends to claim as their own, were actually born and bred in NZ.
