What truly = 'hive mind' ?

I'm going to at some point be writing an alien species (Although only one of them appears in said story) where they are...but they aren't? It's tricky.
They can share physical experiences (Usually pleasure, sometimes pain if it's strong enough.)
They can share information/skills between individuals. Though actual skill sharing is tricky, since some aren't as good at said skills as others.
But they are 'unique' people, through and through. This is the most human side of them (Aside their mostly human anatomy)
They aren't driven by some 'will' like Bees to a queen of the hive either.

I think a true hive mind would be they all share thoughts together. What one feels or experiences, they all feel or experience.

It would lead to far less individuality, and far more likelihood of duty to the hive over any personal feeling otherwise. The Borg are an example of this, I think.

So like, if you pinch one, they all feel the pinch? Cause they kind of do that but not to an extreme. (They can share 'information' and occasionally experiences, but it's done at will rather than an instant thing.)

I think what separates these ladies (They're a mostly female race) from the Borg is the whole individuality thing.
At one point, they WERE a hive mind, but one day one of their leaders 'evolved' (Sort of, not in the pokemon sense or anything) to think 'you know what, maybe individuality is fun' especially after they discovered more humanoid races. Especially after discovering well, human humans. One of their leaders becomes fascinated by human culture, and decides on her own to investigate. This triggered the 'mutation' that removed the whole 'hive mind' thing from their genetics. Further experimentation from the other leaders ended up removing the 'hive mind' bit from their species almost entirely.

She had done this well before the whole King Midas but ladies curse thing though. The Joke is that she pokes fun at Katsu saying that the curse affected her from all the way across the stars. (Which is kind of true, given that they share experiences) After Katsu freaks out about the curse affecting the whole universe, she comforts him and confirms it is only powerful enough to affect earth. Which, still a crazy amount of range for such a thing.

Fun Tidbit: They have a Proper tail, but it's somewhat like the nerve ending thing the Avatar people have. (I forget if they ever name it in the movies) She jokes about it being for 'probing' and then realizes that word means something different in human language and instantly has foot in mouth style regret phrasing it that way.

Maybe more like the Nestor of Battle Beyond the Stars.

100% What I'm thinking of. Although they look a lot different.

In this case their 'head' leader (the character that Katsu romances) would be the entity their experiences are feeding. The lesser leaders have more individuality.

The Leader is confused about the whole individuality thing, so they decide to investigate humans to puzzle it out. Of course they get distracted in their own research.

In the movie, one of the big scenes is that one of the hive members gets captured, and they torture him, and all the hive members feel it--But, the bad guys cut off the arm of the captured member thinking it will cause him a lot of pain, and harmless to themselves. The hivemind though still has control over the arm so the severed arm attacks and attempts to choke the bad guy.

I've seen the movie like twice. I've actually been wanting to see it again. Just have not gotten to it.

I never got over Sybil Dannings heroic death :(
