Workshopping Ideas for Naming Ceremonies of Aquatic Races

At the risk of pissing in the font so to speak, do you have a naming ceremony in your story? If not do the details of what they are like really matter?

The discussion and world building was very interesting by the way.

Yes, the reason I started this thread was because I have a naming ceremony in the story. I need to nail down the conventions of it in order to show how the ceremony for my Mermaid character differs from the norm. The point is that there are “irregularities” during her’s that mark her as somehow being significant. Not a Chosen One, necessarily, just that there are signs her life will be unconventional.
