Worldbuilding elves being ascedents of faeries

Hello! I'm working on a project and i'm really struggling with world building and lore. I want to create something where elves are the ascendents of fae. But the elves aren't fond of their ascedents because the elves value privacy and knowledge while keeping things such as magic as sacred while the fae tap into natural magic and is seen as a threat by their ancestors. And my fmc (inspired by the disney movie encanto) she is half fae and she keeps her identity hidden because she has an elven guardian who takes care of her out of reliability and he or she doesnt want everyone in their village know that fmc has fae blood. So my problem is I am not sure how to get from A: elves being ascendents and are known for their knoweldge and respect for whats sacred. To B fae being descendents of elves and they can not co exist with the older generation because of hate and generational trauma.

I don't think I'm understanding the problem very well here, as described. It seems to me both A and B can both be true of a world. Is the issue that the plot you have in mind won't fit very well with the way that is set up?

I have a few questions for clarity: the fae tap into natural magic and is seen as a threat by their ancestors--Is this the fae's ancestors, or the elves' ancestors that feel this threat? Is the fae the threat, or is it the natural magic? A lot of the wording is ambiguous. I don't think I've seen the word 'ascendents' used in this way before, and I'm not clear on what that means here. It seems like a parents-and-offspring kind of thing, but I'm not sure.

I don't think I can offer an answer, but what caused the trauma? You mention that elves and fairies have different magic techniques, but not really why that should be threat to elves. I hope you are able to find a solution.

You need a Time Machine. That is great in stories, and can surmount a lot of effort. If fae are elves, then maybe elves are fae. Then you use a Time Machine to figure out the origin of your malady, then problem solved. You could make it about how fae win in the end, and know that elves claim truer knowledge.

The way that elves and fae act, can be disjointing, when regarding the magic system and plot of a story. If there are secrets hidden, then there are secrets gleaned. That is just the way it is. You should work on the backstory if it aligns with the plot, editing with grammar in mind rather than plot structure and character interaction that is already apparent.

From what I understand, maybe the elves wanted to keep magic safe and controlled because they see it as sacred, but some younger elves didn't like those rules and broke away, becoming the fae who use magic more freely. The elves see that as dangerous and that's why there's so much tension between them.

Elves are certainly more common, but are shrouded in mystery. Vampires and werewolves are pets of the fantasy genre, but I should call them paranormal.

If you delve deep, there are always monsters.

Maybe it is close to home, but what constitutes a sub-genre, about fae?

Maybe the elves once banned the fae's nature magic after a big disaster, and that fear turned into lasting prejudice.
