Writing Companions

Quillstine

Troubadour
I see a few posts floating around on topics such as this...general light hearted banter to keep the creative juices flowing!
So I thought I would start one of my own! What/who is your writing companion? Do you have one? Is it a stuffed toy, a good luck charm, a bottle of wine or maybe another person? Tell us about them…
To get things rolling, here are my three personal assistants/writing companions.

Edvard The Bard… He is named such as he sings such lovely howling meows when he wants to be fed or patted, which is invariably always! When I write he sleeps in my lap. He’s also developed a nasty habit of sharing my pillow at night too!

Sylvia The Dour…She is a fine maiden of even temper, until she loses it! Then it’s claws out and scowling hisses until the others know who is in charge. She takes prime position purring on my shoulders when I sit to meet my daily writing goals.

Praedonis The Trouble Seeker… If something is clattering and clanging along the hardwood floor, then you can bet it’s his remaining front paw propelling it. If it twitches, swivels or really just moves, then it’s fair game! He likes to sleep on my keyboard when I write, after an hour so we negotiate boundaries. He gets the left Tab, Shift, Control keys and numbers 1 through 4. I get the rest!

I have Matt the Fiancé. Usually to be found snoring in the bed when I'm writing, or else keeping to himself at his own PC downstairs in the lounge. Occasionally asks piercing questions about my writing, or shares his own stories. If he's playing video games with his Skype call friends, there's the possibility that a shout of victory or defeat will be heard through the floor and over the music I'm listening to while writing.

Also Momo the plot bunny. I got it last week. It's a bright green pipe cleaner masterfully shaped to look like a bunny, with ears and feet. Sits under my monitor. Named for Momo the lemur bat from Avatar: the Last Airbender, because ears. Doesn't do anything due to being a pipe cleaner.

When I write in my room I have Gandalf Merry and Pippin the Red Eared Slider turtles. They are not much help, though, as they spend most of their time sleeping on the basking log. Also in their company is Wilbur the solemn Shovelnose Catfish

When I write in the attic I have Lily the Umbrella Cockatoo for company. Unfortunately her frequent screaming can distract me from my work.

I have no living companions that share my writing but I do have a fossil fish that is two inches long and about 250m yo. There is also a piece of Roman hypocaust, not as old but it has a makers mark. That and the fish give me a sense of deep history and makes me think a little more and then a little more...
