DreamerIt is one of the sub-genres of Chinese fantasy. It's written in a historical fantasy setting, and at the heart of it, has characters that are cultivating (or evolving) to higher levels of magical martial arts It usually involves magical creatures or beings, such as dragons, phoenixes or gods. The characters are ethnically Chinese (although the word China is never mentioned) and draws on Chinese history, naming conventions, culture, geography, clothing, etc. That is a very simplified explanation though.
DreamerI have written some short stories, and I am halfway through the first draft of a xianxia fantasy about a mischievous water dragon, who has cultivated into a celestial being, but then been stripped of his celestial powers AND his water dragon abilities, and now has to live as a mortal until he can gain back everything he has lost.Hi and welcome! Oddly, I've never been very raptured by Ken Liu's books even though he's a master writer. It's a little too historical & not enough magic for my taste...
