Hi, I admire your patience with some of these new writers. Sometimes even their posts are awful, and if they post part of a story, I can hardly get through the first sentence. You manage to be critical yet encouraging.

I wonder what drives such people to write. And I wonder how much they've read.

Every famous violinist made screechy noises the first time they picked up a violin. So there's hope.

Well, not all of them have English as a first language so that must make being in the forums difficult. Doing a lot of reading is of no help if they cannot express themselves in English. I'd rather not tell them to write in their own language even when that may be the best idea because it means we cannot help them easily or even at all.

Some clearly are not English speakers. Thanks for reminding me. I always think of Joseph Conrad in this context.
I by accident put my story into the rules about setting up a story to be critiqued, Not sure as to how I can rectify this problem.
Draft 8 is out to beta readers and I am building my query list and supplies for getting an agent!
Your magic system doesn't have to be wholly different or better than anyone else's. It can be, sure, but it doesn't HAVE to be.
