General Tsar Era Russia Questions

I’m writing a Russian inspired high fantasy book, and was looking for information about Russia under the Tsars.
What was the general technology like?
Was there hot running water?
What did the meals look like?

I may have more questions later.

How about in the 1700-1800th century?

One of the most important parts is probably the great modernization by Peter the Great by which Russia was, to my understanding, both thrown into the Tsarist Absolutism that Imperial Russia is known war along with a incredible modernization and reformation of pretty much all aspects of society. Between titanic leaders like Peter the Great and Catharina the Great, there were great changes and much dramatic history.

So in general I think, from a potentially ignorant positon, that in 1700 Russia was behind technologically but on the other hand it made great strides to catch up during that century when, unless I've gotten things on its head, Russia was much more oriented, or at least its elite in the royal court and capital, towards the West than what it turned after the Napoleonic Wars and onwards.

Why the relationship turned sour is something that can be discussed up and down entire threads of its own.
