Cosplay Sites

I had a great idea inspired by a friend to cosplay as one of the characters in my story. The thing is... I didn’t realize how hard it was to find cosplay pieces to build it. :banghead::cry: So I’m asking you cosplayers out their where are the best places to go to build my own cosplay from scratch?

Hi Eztlirald Clarinda!

How fun!

Are you looking for ready-made pieces and, if so, of what exactly? Swords? helmets? Medieval dress? Futuristic? Ears? Prosthetics (tails, etc)? Costume patterns?

To be honest, most of the cosplayers I know, the LARPers and comic-con attendees and the such in particular, usually make most of their own costumes from scratch. So most of my advice would be geared towards searching for their sites/blogs etc which often have amazing how-to directions/photos and perhaps contacting those who have created items that are closest to your own needs. Pinterest is actually a good place to start. Just searching cosplay there can lead you to sites for many designers and suppliers. :)

I’m not really sure how to explain the first character’s appearance but she is a demon hunter, so very rogue like. She wears mostly dark colors (black being the main color) and I want something that would fit both mobility and protection. She also wears a plain black mask but that shouldn’t be too hard to find.

The second character however is a shadow. I would like to find an alternative to painting my face (as I’m not good with face painting or makeup) to make my skin black. A body suit maybe? Almost like a full suit made of the same material that pantyhose is made of? I’m going to look around online and see what I can find.

Ok, update! So have a friend who’s going to sew together the cape for my second character. Spandex body suits are pretty easy to find not all that bad in price. But, the hard part is this... what would be a good fit for a prince to wear that doesn’t break the bank for me? Because I figured that a plain white tee, which I have, paired with a purple waist coat would work and then just find some nice slacks and boots... but apparently purple waist coats are hard to find at a decent price in my size:mad:

One suggestion would be to hit vintage clothing/goodwill stores around you and see if you can find something style wise to work. Purple will likely be a hard find, but you never know. You may luck into something light enough to be dyed. Waistcoats seem to be something cosplayers either make from scratch OR find a suitable, simple (vintage) piece and accessorize it with things like braided cord, big silver/gold buttons, medals etc. Good luck!

Oh my gosh you’re right! I went into a Goodwill store Friday with some friends and they did have a corset so they’ve got to have something! That’s brilliant, thank you!:geek::LOL:
