Wilderness Writer

Hello everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself to the community. My name is E.C. Zephon, and I am an independent author and digital creator currently living out in the wilderness and secluded forest areas of Minnesota.
My real-world lifestyle is deeply tied to ancient and traditional ways of doing things—I spend my time with archery, wilderness survival, building shelters, and relying on basic, primal elements. This physical discipline directly inspires my writing and world-building process. When I step out of the woods and onto my device, I am fully focused on channeling that raw texture into my fantasy work.
My primary creative project is an ongoing, multi-season saga titled The Written Soul. I built this universe from the ground up as a high-stakes, modern magical realism series featuring Black characters, deep spiritual lore, and intricate faction dynamics centered on a conflict between the Dark Corners Alliance and The Order. My ultimate goal with this series is to show readers that entire worlds continue to live, breathe, and move even after you close the pages of the book.
I'm glad to already be connecting with some of you in the live chat rooms. I look forward to diving deeper into discussions on world-building, ancient weaponry, and sharing the independent publishing grind with fellow scribes.

Welcome!

I was raised on an Alaskan homestead at the edge of civilization, a time of hard work that taught me an assortment of practical skills, now mostly claimed by age and injury.

These days, I dwell in a small town about a dozen miles from the old homestead (still in the family). I used some of those experiences in my writing, which now numbers a dozen (self) published books, mostly set in a tottering empire on another planet where characters struggle to forge new lives while dealing with past trauma in the wake of the Demon War.

It's a pleasure to meet you. Me and mine are located in SW Missouri in the tippy toes of the Ozarks, in the middle of the deciduous forest, mostly hickory and oak and walnut. Redbuds everywhere. Cedars are invasive and are to be plucked on sight. And this is our yard in Spring.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! It is fascinating to hear where everyone is grounding their roots and their writing. There is a specific type of quiet and grit that comes from living in small towns and closer to the earth that you just cannot replicate inside a heavy city grid. That connection to the local landscape is exactly what I tap into when I step out of the brush and onto the page.
To the fellow magical realism author here: It is great to connect with another writer in this space. I find the genre incredibly powerful because it allows us to take the raw, physical textures of our real-world environments—whether it's the specific way wet grey sand feels or how a tree line shapes the horizon—and amplify them into something deeply spiritual and high-stakes.
For those of you writing from small towns or rural areas, how much does your immediate physical terrain dictate the borders and rules of the worlds you create?
Looking forward to diving deeper into the craft with you all.

I like your passion and introspection on it. I do hope it translates to the page.

People will never know, but much of the landscape of my stories comes from a park near the house I grew up in.

Thanks for the heads up, A. E.! I just updated my settings, and it looks like the signature link is live and showing up great now. Really appreciate the help getting settled into the community!

From visions in 2019 to national distribution footprints today, everything is moving full circle. I am incredibly hyped to announce that my feature interview is officially LIVE on Awesome Gang, and my dark fantasy book is officially LIVE over on Awesome Gang ! 👁️✨

Okay, I was wondering if 'Log Cabin' was a way of saying, I put my stories together one log at a time... But, I would have never heard such a reference before.

I am not building a log cabin. I built a lot of tents when I was in the army, and once a pretty nice foxhole with a roof :) but...I stopped there. Cutting down trees with an E-tool was not all that easy ;)

(And, I still have a pretty good scar on my hand from where an E-tool skipped off a tree and hit near my thumb... We'll say Tree 1, Military Grunt 0)

Come on world, come to E.C. Zephon—because you will never find another written soul. Step into a completely unique psychological universe where a Black author falls in love with a character in his own unpublished story, projecting his alter ego as a white cowboy. The narrative explodes when a devoted girlfriend, aided by her Venezuelan witch friend, physically enters the written world. There, she must navigate a brutal spiritual war alongside Levi and Kobby—two agents of The Order hunting down a sinister cult known as The Dark Corners. The high priestess of this cult has Stan imprisoned, plotting to hijack his body to escape the page and infiltrate our reality. For Levi and Kobby, this mission is a blood feud: Amanda’s father and Cintron’s adoptive father, Elymas, are the men who murdered their own father. The corporate gatekeepers have been bypassed, the automated storefront is fully live, and the boundary between realities is ready to break—come download The Written Soul directly from the creator today.
