building an idea for a story... help?

First up, thanks for the encouragement! Much appreciated. As to the strong protag, I have someone in mind. His personality's been floating in my head for a while and I've finally settled on a name - Graham. I was thinking that he was abused by his father after his mom died giving birth to his...

Anybody care to share their map?

I noticed the references to Celtic or Nordic or whatever-it-is mythology and the Bible (: Japheth and Sheba and Ishmael, oh my! I know, it's corny. I'm tired.

building an idea for a story... help?

So lately I've been toying with two ideas. And I'm trusting here that no one's gonna steal them. I don't think anyone will, and it's not like I would know if they did anyway, but nevertheless... I want to merge these two ideas somehow. Ideas? Comments on any part of either idea? Idea one...

    aquila description

There's a such thing as an aquila eagle? I thought aquila just described an eagle. I.e. aquiline... Weeell, depends on the world you're setting it in. Do other creatures exist there with feathers? Talons? Beaks? That sort of thing. If they do, awesome. Those terms aren't taboo. If not, you're...

    Researching Tudor England

I can't tell you many details, but The-tudors.org.uk is a really good site to look on. There's a lot, but if you at least skim I'm sure you'll learn a lot. Just wondering, is your story fantasy-based? I know it probably is, since this is a site dedicated to fantasy in the first place, but just...

    Expanding My Vocabulary!

I'm not sure if I'd really use some of those in writing, but your choice! Sometimes I pick up a book and, five pages in, I get a headache from all the formal words and general noise (unnecessary stuff). But if you experiment around and get it right, you can also work unusual words really well...

    Names...

I've seen the male name trend too from time to time, but seeing it in print kind of cemented the theory. Thanks! (: The characters in World X are supposed to have more unusual names, but I don't like a lot of the names I go through. Guess I'll have to be less picky, more creative, or both. (:

    Names...

Yup, I have. It was actually one of the first things I did. :) Thanks for the suggestion! Maybe I'll go back and check again. Danny and Christa are two of my main characters, and they're based off of really common names in our world, but they're really uncommon in their world. Names are...

    Names...

Hello there! I'm Cariadhe (pronounced CARE-uh-dee), the newest member. (: I've been scrounging around with an idea I had a few days ago about a world that leans more away from the fireball-vomiting, pixie-dust-farting magical world on the extreme end of fantasy. They have a kind of biological...
