What is a good derogatory term for a neanderthal-like people?

Oh, that's actually...kinda clever. Thanks. I like that a lot.

What is a good derogatory term for a neanderthal-like people?

There is a race of nomads called the Antari in my world. They are ritually hunted by the Anurans, the Roman-esque power of the world, in a ritual practice called the Fleshing. In my readings of historical texts, it's never beneath a group of people to label the "ethnically inferior" group with...

Tips on Getting into the Writing Habit

Thanks for all the advice. I think I will wake up an hour earlier and write then. I've never been productive in the morning. How convenient that I have a novel that needs finishing and no set time to complete it...

Tips on Getting into the Writing Habit

When I was younger, I could belt out 1000 words in an hour, easy. My focus was better; I could write whenever, wherever, for hours at a time. I distinctly remember writing in the bathroom of a cruise ship at 2 in the morning because the lights were out in my cabin. It's been maybe two years...

    Help with creating my world

Ha! Flat Earth is cool. When the flat earth societies read your book, they'll all say "I KNEW IT!"

    First Draft Troubles

So, the underlying theme here seems to be "Write now, worry later." I think I can handle that. Really, I was worried that most others are happy with their first drafts and the pressure of having everything just so was weighing on me. It's hard to crap through certain scenes when my mind is full...

    First Draft Troubles

"F*** editing last day's text," you say. suppose I agree with you there. I've never actually had the chance to get to the editing stage because I've never finished one novel in all my five years of writing. I have been writing consistently every day for the past couple of weeks, which is more...

How "realistic" should a World be?

I've always found the mechanics of a world to be nowhere near as important as the way the story is told. If you are happy with the way your world turned out, it will show in your writing. What I mean is, if you believe in your world, the reader will believe as well.

    Dreams where you can fly

I am sad to say that I have never dreamed of flying, although it's always been a dream of mine. (Ha, see what I did there?) When I was younger, I would binge YouTube videos about birds and the art of flight, hoping my waking fascination would bleed into my dreams. No such luck. Perhaps one day...

    Nightmares

I don't have them often, but I do wake from nightmares occasionally. I have a hard time remembering my dreams, but this one is vivid for some reason? I watched the dream as an outsider, like in a movie film. There was a tall man in glasses and a lab-coat mixing potions in beakers, Jekyll and...

I dreamed that my dog was made of mozzarella

I used to lucid dream in middle-school because my anxiety kept me in a state of half-awake nervousness the entire time I slept. I don't do that anymore, not that my anxiety's gone, it's just moved to the point right before I go to sleep, to the point where I can lay in bed for three hours before...

    Greetings!

Hello, everyone! I am new to forums of any kind, and certainly writing forums. I've always been too shy to share my work, especially rough drafts like the one I am currently working on. Hopefully, interacting with this community will remedy that. I'm writing a fantasy novel set in the middle of...

    First Draft Troubles

I have quite a few, but I've narrowed them down to these three: 1. Size of the text. I have an uncanny knack for turning a simple plot point into a full-blown, sixty page novella, which, let me tell you, is far from convenient when trying to avoid tangent in a first draft. 2. Brush up blues...
