    Making the action happen

I never had much trouble writing scenes where two people talk. Yet I've always felt like it was easier just to focus on the dialogue then to remember to add actions in them. I'm not trying to make an excuse for myself, but as a non-native English speaker I'm used to hearing dialogue, not used to...

    Bad Writing Advice

Someone once told me the following: When writing characters don't base yourself on real people. They are fictional and they should be grandiose. A story is only interesting when the characters are and great characters come from extremes. A hero should be flawless, inspiring, a beacon of hope...

    Darmorians/The Darklanders/Pale-Skins/Gold-Eyes/Man-Eaters; A fantasy race.

Ah yes. Immortality obviously. That's what I get for trying to be too quick. The naming system is very basic and I'll expand on it later, this was a very basic concept.

    Darmorians/The Darklanders/Pale-Skins/Gold-Eyes/Man-Eaters; A fantasy race.

Yesterday I opened a topic in which I wondered about the consequences of a world with a constant day and night. I received a lot of great suggestions, so I decided to share my idea for the people that live in the Nightlands. Physical Description They are shorter than an average human...

The Land of Day and Night, a physically impossible world.

Hi. Thanks for the welcome. The world is called Averta. In a sense it doesn't matter if it is a planet or not, as the world is not observed as such. There is very little astronomy and while I could definitely go into great detail why the world physically is the way it is, I prefer the idea of...

The Land of Day and Night, a physically impossible world.

I've been worldbuilding for a while and it just sounded like a great way to add to the world. The actually angle of the world isn't exactly important to my world. There aren't many experts on astronomy in this world and I doubt it will be explored. In the mythology there's a reason for the world...

The Land of Day and Night, a physically impossible world.

In the Night-Lands we have mostly a few large cities which are ruled by the Sun-Wielders (they are the Leaders of the Daybringers). They provide the cities with artificial sunlight and allow the people to survive. There are nomads who travel from the cities through the darkness to the...

Strong winds are actually a reason I want to add this, I need a reason for strong currents.

How Do You Handle First Draft Boredom?

The best advice I can give you is to not look back too much. There will always be parts of your writing which is weaker than the rest. Just ignore it for now and don't let it get you or the rest of your writing down. Later, during a redraft, you can improve it.

The Land of Day and Night, a physically impossible world.

Woah! Many responses, so let me go through them one by one and answer some questions. I disagree on your statement of savagery, but I see your point. It's true that these would be people who have developed slower on certain fields. However, in this harsh setting they would have no choice but...

    Hello!

Hi! Thanks for the welcome. I've jumped in and made a post already. Feel like this place will help me be a bit more productive (though I might also be at risk of being unproductive due to the amount I'd spend on here and not writing). I'm filled with stories and I cannot wait to share and have...

The Land of Day and Night, a physically impossible world.

Never let logic get in the way of a good story I've once been told. Using that mantra I've created a world that does not make sense physically. Perhaps a bit too much so. The idea is that part of the world is shrouded in constant darkness, while another part is shrouded in constant daylight...

    Hello!

My name is Sander, I'm a 22 year old from Belgium. In my daily life I'm a special ed teacher (though an unemployed one still), and I spend most of my time volunteering with local non-profit organizations (and job-hunting). I love to read, but my real passion is with writing. As long as I...
