Well, the conflict is that Nerine's parents look down on her hanging out with a human, or in other words the caste hierarchy that keeps her apart from him. There is no social pressure that keeps Abdhamon from seeing Nerine, if anything his family would be thrilled that their son is close to a god.
I've got a personal project which is kind of a retelling of The Little Mermaid, set in a world based on the Bronze age mediterranean. In this setting there's a human kingdom based on ancient Phoenicia and Minoa, and a merfolk kingdom beneath the Ocean.
The human kingdom is wealthy and...
While this isn't the idea I had in mind, Ive actually already got an idea for an antagonist by now, I think it's interesting to compare and contrast my Vashti with Daenerys.
Both are young, victimized women from a royal background, who join another culture that are incidentally both inspired by...
What do you mean by "villain of her own story"? I would like you do elaborate. Do you mean being a villain who doesn't realize it, or that her problems are due to her own self-sabotage? I dont think that would work, the premise of my story is that Vashti is a mostly innocent, victimized girl who...
Back to the djinn, she wouldn't be a good antagonist because she's trapped inside a cave for the entire story until the climax, and therefore couldn't be any real threat until then. And since Vashti is working to free her, there's no reason for the djinn to oppose her.
Thanks for the suggestion, and although I initially envisioned my story as a "fantasy kitchen sink" setting, I don't think a kitsune would fit as Japan is very far from Persia and the ancient near east.
As others have stated, "genie" and "djinn" aren't different types of creatures, "genies" are the westernized depiction of djinn, who are beings in traditional middle eastern folklore and mythology. Their morality is just as varied as that of humans, and while they feature in Islam belief in them...
The djinn is trapped inside a cave until the climax of vashti's story, because her entire arc is about killing the king and she needs the djinns help to do that.
I'm in a state of considering your suggestion, even if I'm not sure it fits. The problem is that I don't see a reason for anyone in court to care where she's gone to after being exiled. I just don't see it as likely that a child born to a disgraced former queen could threaten the line of...
She doesn't, and I don't know how having a son would change anything. Besides the fact that Vashti is so young at the beginning of her story, when she loses her position, that such a thing would be creepy to a YA audience.
Are you saying that Vashti could be seen as a legitimate contender for...
No one in court knows that. By the time Vashti decided that she wants to kill the king, she has been far away from the Royal Court for at least 2 years.
