I don't rightfully know, actually. It depends on everything, really. Just go with what you think will work, and if it doesn't, scrap it and start from the last square.
Ooh, Invisibility! Let's see.. Um. Besides tricking people, I'd maybe use it to... Um.. I got nothing. How about.. No, that's tricking.. Um.. Nah.. *10 Hours Later* Nope, nothing. Oh wait! Maybe Invisibility could be used to fake magi- CRAP THAT'S TRICKING! I have nothing, sorry.
I think it's a good idea. I personally had come up with many mythical creatures for my WIP, The Fantastic World Of Mr. Fable (I'll explain it to ya'll sometime) And I know it's really hard. You have to keep in mind enviroment, camouflage, eye size and position, diet, hibernation/migration...
To me your problem doesn't seem to be the MC, I think your problem is actually his younger brother. It's okay for the brother to outshine your MC... To some extent. Now this doesn't mean have your MC be a thinly-disguised Superman. Make your characters - including the side ones - have flaws. One...
This really helped me.
It makes you look at writing a lot differently. Basically it's a website that's got a bunch of stuff about writing the first chapter. However, I find it applies to writing any part of your book. Bunch of bad language and adult concepts [Chuck Wendig, who else], but if you...

Having The Slab

From The Dream
A Cup of Hand

Your examples are good ones, and thank you for your help.
I do, however, disagree with your notion of starting with an action scene.
If there is a battle going on, but no characters are developed yet, why would I care about a battle? I don't know who is fighting or why, if they're the antagonist...
This. Is a good idea.
However, maybe you could view the war [or whatever conflict you've chosen] from the viewpoint of a soldier, or maybe the enemy. Nonetheless, this is an interesting approach, and a very unique one at that. Go for it! [And please post some parts of the book as many of us...
I've been developing this one book for a while now.
But I've got a problem. Well, A couple problems.
First off, is it okay to have more then one conflict? I'm wondering, would it confuse the reader if there was more then one major struggle, or would it make the world and characters more...
Hey there..
New here to Mythic Scribes..
Well not exactly "new".
I've been here a long time but I didn't make an account.
But now I did.
So, here it is.
Just thought I'd tell you guys...
Yeeeep.
I'm going to try posting every day..
Probably going to be a lot of questions..
I'm kinda...
