I'm going on an adventure! From my bedroom...

Hello everyone, I came here with the expectation of writing something in the chat, but then I thought it might be best to have an open thingy here in the forums.
About 3 weeks ago I had a spark of inspiration, about a new high fantasy world filled with magic, monsters, kingdoms, politics and a magic university where, at least in the beginning, most of the story will be taking place. I spend those 3 weeks almost compulsively writing down, creating the world and the story non-stop, no matter where I was, at work or at home I have been keeping notes non-stop! this thing is almost creating itself!! The whole thing started with me trying to create a magic system, and then two whole civilizations were born from this magic system and then the story just came out as a product of that world and the system! it was pretty great! Kind of the reason I didn't come back to the page for 3 weeks, I simply could not stop writing. I have already mapped out the story it's going to be five books (yay?) and there is going to be enough lore and learning of magic and history of this world as well as a lot of politics. I finally found my perfect excuse to add my favorite character of all times, which is Kreia from the video game Star wars Knights of the old Republic 2. Obviously it's not going to be the same the same... But you know what I mean, a mentor for the main character and other characters that has a very similar flavour! I have also specifically written down the spine of the first book with small descriptions of what's going to happen on each chapter, and I'm about to begin writing the book itself! (I can almost taste the magic!) If anyone wishes to participate in the discussion about magical worlds here, or has any advice or wants to talk about anything related to high fantasy, I have found that discussing such things only allows me to improve the world, the history, the lore, etc. I know it may not be really interesting to someone else, but I just wanted to come here and shout it out because, to understand how impactful this story already was, I put aside five ongoing projects and put this at the top of my priorities, I feel this is going to be something great! And I'm really scared that I'm going to screw it up but you know how this goes...

I’m a bit the same, same. There is high fantasy in my mind. It is almost like we have been boxed in, by our current drama. The drama of our soul. But, there is the nagging suspicion at our door. We wonder, what is going on in the world of our character? We haven’t met them, but they are ever present.

If you could put into words how you felt about your character, would you suppose they would say nice things about you? How would they look at their spine and triumph in their malady? I think the best way to write, is to just write, but lately I have been reducing plot to skeletons in one giant soup.

The current story of mine takes place in twists and turns, and in the fictional realm of Narnia. There is the Fitz character and the Chade character, and they are at arms. One is the teacher, the other a pupil, but they seem to have resolve. A talent for trouble, you’d might say. And one big pussy.

Hopefully your characters sing for you like mine do, and we all keep the ember glowing in our soul, much like the spine of our characters a fleshed out skeleton.

Best of luck.

Obviously it's not going to be the same the same...

It might be.

You won't screw it up. We call this Draft Zero, and it's magic. You cannot screw it up, you cannot be cliche, you cannot be derivative. Just write.

Okay, maybe a couple more. Your carriage return key - Enter - is your friend. Walls-o-text make it harder to read, thereby putting off readers who were interested when they started, but now we all have a headache. Now, I say this as a woman who is perfectly capable of writing 5-line sentences, and I can do it whilst changing languages three times, one being telepathy, and at least 3 curse words. Can I actually summon something from beyond our realm with sentences that twist the very fabric of space and time? Yeah, bu- uh... no. No, I've never helped evil cross into our realm in exchange for the info on a super-secret spellchecker. That? Oh, no, that's no demon. That's just some rando. Told me to make him a sandwich.

I think he must miss Fortnite.

Love Kreia. Love Star Wars in general and KoTOR and SWTOR is one of my long-time games. I got into beta on that one and have a Founder title. I love games that make me think, and love them more when they make me think story.

You don't have to keep all this limited to this one thread. It's actually more helpful to the other writers to have one subject per thread. That both breaks things down into just bites of the elephant and makes the site more searchable. Also, we digress with the best, but are generally helpful.

And last, don't worry about length at this point. Just get all of that story onto the page, in whatever form fits you. When the pile is getting bigger, you can start getting an idea of what shape the story is taking. There's only one rule in this game: Writers write. All else is process. Now get to it.

Yes...No big blocky walls of text please.

World Building is great. Story trumps world building.

I am happy to discuss any and all, just put it up as a topic and off we will go.

So, what is cool about the story, and how does it fit into all this world building?

Ok, I'm getting straight to it, it began with nothing but a magic system and a fighting system with magic, I am also a science nerd so I wanted the system to be based on something real, so I picked neuroplasticity as the medium for magic. As the brain changes its neural patterns depending on our thoughts and experiences and general outside pressure, so does a magic wielders ability.
Now, I had already decided that there would be two types of magic that I called back then order and chaos magic, and for that's to connect I needed two different kinds of worlds. As I developed those types of worlds, one that would generate magic users that develop into order magic users and another that produces chaos magic users, my background in history, archeology, and social anthropology took over and I began building those worlds and their entire histories and conflicts with each other. That in itself created the need for a sort of balancing power that would allow these two very different kingdoms to coexist without changing or destroying each other for a long period of time. And therein came the third type of magic user, who can play a sort of intermediary between the two and they're very nature forces them in the middle of some very dangerous political games! The characters mentor is going to be my career character which simply gives me the excuse for some incredible dialogue, it helps me move past the one bad guy and towards some very bad human "habits" e.g. authoritarianism one side and inability to organize on the other. There will be multiple bad guys and the ultimate achievement will be to find the sort of equilibrium that does not perpetuate corruption and taking advantage of the common folk through violence or through lies etc. I have wanted for so long to build upon specific things that Korea has said in Star wars Knights of the old Republic 2 where she mentions that the soldiers and machines of war that we face are not our true test, they're simply obstacles against which repeat ourselves for our own sake to improve ourselves and become stronger. The true war is one of ideas and the true victory lies in making your opponents understand. Of course Kreia is more of a Gray pushing bad guy with a few authoritarian tendencies, which is why I'm twisting her words for my benefit, but in this world I have the excuse of creating grandiose magical constructs, speaking words that are not often used in our world that fit better in this kind of environment, and explore through many fancy and flashy events mundane issues without turning it into a lecture but rather an experience! It is the first time in years, that instead of pushing myself to write because I can't wait to see the final product, I simply cannot wait to write because I can't wait to dive into this world! I feel like I'm 15 years old again just rushing through my studies through the day so I can get back to reading eragon and all the books that followed!

P.s. sorry for any typos, i am at work as i write and I use voice to speech from my phone so I can cover a lot of ground in a short time when I'm free.

Do thirds live in heaven? I thought about making the antagonist the good guy. Looking closely at it is realistic. There are a lot of plot holes that can be filled with a simple concept as introducing a third integer to explain the motivation behind motivation, like neuropathy. Neuropathy is not the right word, as the plural for neuroplasticity. There are tonnes of connections that can be made, but I don’t think so.

So, your twist her words for her benefit, but not including them in the story. Then you won’t have upsets about copyright, not on the surface level at least, but maybe identity theft or intellectual property would come into the picture. The two worlds being so far apart might make it difficult for a third integer interaction happening at the same time, is it a hemisphere situation, political or cultural-societal?

I see a lot of tropes, swirling together to become seperate ideas in fiction. They group together, with a link to ancestry. I think it is a good idea to explore anachronism and normalcy as a part of social development. Not to use the term lying, but that might be a large part of it. There are developments to be made in all sorts of fields, seeing through the antagonists mind, instead of the protagonist, how about the deuteragonist, but not the tritagonist?

You sure have contagious energy with all of that worldbuilding, really having the outline really puts you in a good place. Don't worry too much, just get the draft down and refine later. ;)
